23. Cracks
The Time Lord myths about the void is true. Everywhere you look, there's darkness. Happiness is not an option. This void is dying. The Time Lords have been lucky to live this long, but that's coming to an end.
I've spent the week here with the Doctor's mom. The other Time Lords don't come around me because they know who I am. I've learned quite a lot during that time, basically everything about the Time War and what happened after it in the void. The only thing she won't tell me is what happened to me. She did tell me about my parents though. They led a few battles, but died about halfway through the war. For me, it's extremely difficult to take in all of this, mostly because I'm still human. In theory, my mind should have burned up by now, I should be dead, yet I'm not.
"Is there anywhere you would like to go?" Asked the Doctor's mom, snapping me out of my thoughts.
"No. I think I'll sit out here today." I told her. I was sitting in the slightly regrown orange grass looking up at the blank sky. It was almost as though I could see the walls closing, the Time Lock was nearing its end, yet everyone stayed so calm. I was amazed.
The only thing that kept me from going insane was the thought that the Doctor was saving the Universe, my Universe. Never gonna be able to go back there again.
I kept sitting there until words started to rush through my head: So he made his plot to make her insane. The Lord President wanted the Doctor to never exist. He wanted revenge upon his future standings. He knew there would be a Time War, he knew all would lose, and he blamed the Doctor. But there is a little missing piece. When the ForeSeers began, they were allowed to be anyone, but that all changed when the Time Lords showed up in the Universe. Time Lords should never become ForeSeers. It is forbidden by the Universe, and yet there still were some. There was no point in getting rid of them, so the Universe made sure the ForeSeer would find their ForeSeed. And that became true. Nothing is as powerful as the Universe and they always found eachother, doomed to never exist. But with every pair that never became, came a crack in the fabric in time and space. Those cracks consumed everything in their paths and more and more came to be... Once the ForeSeed in dead, its ForeSeer dies as well.
The words stopped running through my head when I felt something hit my head. I watched as it fell on the ground. No pain rushed through my head, which really surprisedd me. I started to reach for the object, it looked like a piece of wood, it was blue. I picked it up to find that it was a piece of the TARDIS. It was a corner of the panel, with words I never read, that's on the door. I just looked at it as though something was supposed to happen. And I was right. A crack appeared in the ground only a few feet away from me. I just looked at it, thinking that I was only seeing it but it was there. I started to crawl towards it, keeping the piece of the TARDIS in my hand.
I got close enough to touch it but I knew that wasn't a smart choice. Out of nowhere a hand holding a handkerchief came through the crack, as though it was searching for something. I reached toward the hand and handed it the piece of the TARDIS but still hung on to it. When the hand felt the piece, it pulled back. I was pulled through the crack with it.
The blinding light burned. It felt like I was catching on fire. I could just barely see smoke coming off my clothes and skin. That only took a few moments. Next thing I knew, I was on the floor of a cave. A cold rush of wind felt nice as it blowed over my skin. I didn't see much of the cave, until I saw a man in a tweed jacket and red bowtie knealing down toward me.
"Starlit?" He asked. His voice filled with joy. "It's me. The Doctor."
"Doctor." I muttered.
"Yeah. Come on. Let's get you inside the TARDIS." He spoke as he picked me up.
Out of the corner of my eye I saw a green person. It had a gun in its hand. "Doctor." I tried to get his attention.
The gun shot a laser right toward us. But some other guy jumped in front of us to save our lives.
"Rory!" I heard a woman's scream. A ginger haired woman ran to his side while the Doctor quickly dropped me off inside the TARDIS.
"Stay right here." He said as he ran out of the doors once more.
A sudden pain hit my side. It wasn't only burned because of the crack, but it looked like half of the laser shot me. I put my hand over the wound as blood started to flow through it.
Only moments later, the Doctor came rushing in tugging along the ginger lady. She was screaming. The Doctor only locked the door and walked up to the control panel about to take off when a picture appeared on a huge screen. Rory was dead, and light crawled over to him like vines. It was going to delete him from existance. The Doctor tried to calm her down and sat her down on a couch trying to keep her remembering. I knew it wasn't going to work. With a sudden jerk, the TARDIS landed. The ginger lady completely forgot and ran toward the door. The Doctor and many others followed her. None of them noticed me. The blood didn't stop rushing from my wound, it wasn't clotting up at all. I could feel it leaving my body. I fell to the ground hoping I wouldn't die, but my body told otherwise. The wound was fatal. No way out of this one.
A few minutes later the Doctor returned with the ginger woman. The Doctor finally noticed something was wrong.
"Starlit! What happened?" He rushed toward me. I kept my wound closed with my hand. The Doctor took out his sonic screwdriver and scanned me. "It's gonna be alright." He said as he tried to pick me up. I yelled at the amount of pain. "There's gotta be something, anything I could do." He said to himself.
"You already have. At least I got to see you again." I said to him before slowly shutting my eyes. I knew I would have to die.
"This isn't how you will die!" He yelled. I heard him run off and return in no time at all. He placed something circular in my hand. "It's your watch, your life. Open it if you want to and you will be saved."
I only held the watch in my hand. My strength decreasing by the seconds.
"Please open it. For me." I heard the Doctor mutter.
"Doctor I-"
"Just please open it."
"Doctor I-"
"If you won't open it then just say so."
"Doctor I need help." I finally finished as I placed my hand in his. My finger was on the button and just needed some help.
"Always." I heard the Doctor say.
