rivera began her formula 1 debut in 2016 with williams-mercedes at the age of 17. rivera achieved 4podiums — P2: canadian grand prix, P3: monaco and european grand prix and P1 in the spanish grand prix, her home race — making her the youngest formula 1 driver to win a race, rivera was 17 years and 341 days old.
in 2017, rivera joined mercedes, replacing nico rosberg after his retirement. rivera had a record breaking season, achieving a podium in 18 out of the 20 races on the seasons calendar. rivera won 14 of the 20 races.
as of 2020, she currently holds the most formula 1 wins in a season. competing with her teammate lewis hamilton, rivera won the 2017 world drivers championship at 19 years old. she is the youngest driver to do so.
