ScarletStar POV
I walked down the city streets, looking for something to eat. My parents had abused me, so I ran away when I was around 6, knowing they would've killed me if I didn't.

I clutched my necklace as someone came around the corner of the street I was walking on. Some people saw me and were kind, others were so mean, it was unbelievable. The person bumped into me and kept walking, a woman with her child trying to fight through the city streets. I calmed down, I had survived on the streets for a while, I was now around 16.

I was going to see if I could steal from the fancy Italian place out of the dumpsters. Turning into the alley, I spied the giant dumpster and lifted the lid.

"Well, look what we have here. If it isn't a pretty woman." Someone laughed. I froze, terrified of what they would do. Next thing I know, he threw me down into the street! I tried to fight back, but more friends came out of the shadows.

"This won't hurt too...what the hell!?" He asked. I had started to shift into a bear. Well you did just try to assault me! He jumped backwards and started pointing a knife at me. His friends were charging toward me. I rapidly started changing into different animals, unable to control my power.

"Woah!" Someone said, completely shocked, it was a new voice. I roared as my lion shape and attacked the man, striking him in the chest and throwing him backward.

I faced his friends as a crocodile, my teeth gleaming off the streetlamp. I charged at one of them and picked him up before slamming him down. "I say we just watch." Someone laughed.

I shifted into a massive eagle and picked the last man up, flying over the alley and dropped him onto a parked car, not high enough to kill him.

I landed and shifted into my human form before walking out of the alley past some of the men. I smirked and kept walking, pulling my trusty jacket around me.

"That was incredible." I heard someone whistle, I jumped and turned around, back on the street. "Who's there?" I barked. "We didn't mean to startle you." It was a woman with flaming orange hair, she was wearing a long sleeved, green shirt with a gold eagle on it and jeans.

She had three other people with her. A woman with shiny blonde hair and she wore a blue shirt with a silver, shiny smiley face in the center, jeans, and silver cowboy boots.

A man wore sunglasses, even though it was night, he had a red top with short sleeves and some sort of graphic on it with jeans. The third woman had stark white hair, she wore a black, simple top with jeans.

I stared at them for a few moments. "Who are you?" I asked again, not really looking for conversation. "What you just did was extraordinary. How long have you had those powers?" The woman with the red hair asked. "Who are you. That is what I want to know." I said back.

The woman didn't say anything else, but looked at everyone with her. I realized now that her hand was threaded through the guy with the sunglasses hand.

"Well, I'm SilverMist, that's Jean, Cyclops, and Storm." The woman with bright blonde hair said. It looked like she had silver paint threaded through her hair.

They all smiled at me, even Cyclops. "What is your name?" SilverMist asked gently. "I am ScarletStar." I managed to say, I didn't trust anyone, and wasn't sure if I should try to trust them. "They are a part of a school of mutants. Jean has a great friend that works there. Why don't we take you to see him?" SilverMist asked, as calm as if we weren't standing almost in the middle of a New York street and I didn't just almost get assaulted.

I really wanted to trust her, but I didn't know what to do. "No." I managed to say. "Why don't you..""Don't push her, Storm. It's whatever she wants to do." SilverMist said, shaking her head.

I sighed, grateful that she had stepped in. "If you're sure, we'll leave you alone." And I swear she said "for now" after. They started to walk away.

"Actually, wait. I...I want to come with you." I admitted. SilverMist turned around and smiled, walking toward me. "Are you sure that's what you want to do? You can trust me. I promise." She smiled at me.

It would beat getting off the streets and starving all the time. But I don't know where they're going to take me. What if they try and hurt me? Who is their friend? What if they just locked me up like the freak I am? If you're a freak, then I'm a freak.

I jumped and looked around, that wasn't my voice! "You can trust us. You'll just live at the X Men mansion and be trained how to control your powers." SilverMist said, reaching for my hand. I pushed her away, something I seemed to be good at.

She followed behind me. They took me to a plane cleverly disguised as a dumpster in an alley way.

I strapped myself in and tried to calm my shaking hands as we flew.

"Please answer me." Jean begged, I was sitting in one of the training rooms, it had been a week, Jean hadn't really tried to earn my trust. "Jean, do not push her. She has had a very traumatic past, I am sure of it." The man I had come to know as Dr. Xavier cautioned her.

I didn't say anything, because I didn't trust Jean all that much. I'm sure she was a fine person, but I didn't want to get abused and hurt again.

"I've got an idea. Why don't we send her to the Avengers and see what they can do? She seemed to trust SilverMist more, I would rather have her somewhere where she might feel more safe. Contact Miss Evergreen and see if she can talk to ScarletStar here, along with SilverMist." Dr. Xavier said, patting my hand.

I shied away from his touch and leaned my back further into the wall, waiting for what was going to happen next.
