SilverMist POV
I heard alarms and stood still. I was outside of ScarletStar's room. I opened the door and walked in.
She was sitting in the middle of her room, curled into a ball and hands over her ears.
"Hey" I said quietly, trying not to scare her. She didn't move. I walked toward her until I was close enough to touch her.
Gently, I wrapped my arms around her in a hug. Before I could do anything she turned into a Rottweiler and turned to face me. She leapt and cut me across the face! She had a scarlet star over one eye and a yin yang necklace around her neck.
She barked at me and continued to snarl. "Hey, it's okay." I said gently. She continued to snarl at me.
"I'm your friend from the alley, remember? It's okay. I won't hurt you." She continued to snarl. "You can trust me. I promise."
I saw something click on her face. She sat down and looked at me, her eyes narrowing. In front of my eyes, she transformed back into a girl.
"S...SilverMist?" She asked me. I nodded carefully. I felt my face and realized that I was bleeding.
I walked over to the wardrobe and looked inside for a towel. I finally spotted one at the lower right. I gently dabbed my face while looking at ScarletStar.
"Sorry." She said gruffly. To anyone else it would seem as if she didn't mean it, but I knew better. She was just really guarded and had so many walls up to protect herself and others.
"It's okay. It'll stop bleeding sometime." I laughed. "Now, do you want to tell me what was wrong earlier?" I asked, sitting across from her. She had retreated into a corner.
"T..the alarm." She said, not looking into my eyes. I made a note in my head about her superhearing. I could barely hear the alarm in the room from inside.
"It should be off now. That's just when we get visitors." I said, leaning back onto my arms and crossing my legs.
She didn't say anything for a while. "Do you want to talk? Tell me some about yourself?"
She didn't say anything, but I saw her rubbing her hands nervously. I jumped into her thoughts. Don't. She can't know. You'll only hurt her and everyone else.
I didn't say anything and waited for her to speak. "No." Was all she said.
"Is it because you're scared? Is that why you put up walls? So you wouldn't hurt anyone? Because you were hurt before?" I asked, knowing it hit home. I saw a scared look on her face. "No stop." "Tell me. Is that why the walls are up? Are you trying to protect me?"
I asked.Next thing I know, she started turning into animals rapidly. I saw a gigantic dragon looming over my head and stopped.
She had blazing red scales the color of blood and black nails. She was as tall as the ceiling, which was about 15 feet. I shrank back, terrified.
"Well that's new...." I said. She started to breathe fireballs at me. I dodged them quickly but realized that it could go through the walls!
"Aye! SpiderGirl wanted me to see if you wanted lunch.. Oh what the bloody hell is this?" I jumped and turned around. The Hooktress was standing in the doorway.
"Get out!" I yelled. I felt a searing pain across my back. I gasped, falling to the floor.
The Hooktress ran toward me, standing in front of me. She was holding a metal shield. I tried to get up, but couldn't because of the pain.
"I'm so so sorry. I couldn't control it. I'm so sorry." I heard ScarletStar crying. I forced myself off the floor.
"It's okay, sweetie. I know you didn't..mean to. I'm sorry I pushed you." I said, trying to ignore the pain.
She just curled further into herself in the middle of the room. "Bloody hell, I guess we found our answer." The Hooktress mumbled.
"No one must know." I growled at the Hooktress. "Aye. You have my word." She responded.
"Leave." I growled at The Hooktress. "I want to make sure you're alright first, luv." She said. "I'm fine. Don't worry about me. I need you out." I said.
She walked out of the room and shut the door with a bang.
"I'm so sorry." ScarletStar was bawling in the middle of the room. "It's okay. I know you didn't mean to. I was like you once." I said quietly.
I painfully made my way closer to her. "Get back. I don't want to hurt you." She said, quickly moving back. "It's okay. You won't. I trust you.""after what I just did!?" She shrieked at me.
"I know you won't. I trust you. And if you do, it's okay. I forgive you." I said, trying to avoid the pain.
"You gave me quite the haircut though!" I laughed. There was silence before I heard her chuckle. "You should be glad it was only your hair." She said quietly.
I grinned. "Let me tell you a story. There was once a girl who was used as an experiment for the Green Goblin. She was injected with serum and was made to do awful things. She was forced to burn down an entire city.
She was also forced to destroy a hotdog stand. Heavens knows why. But anyway, she was rescued and brought to The X Men. She didn't know how to control her powers and almost killed her best friend.
She put up so many walls so she couldn't hurt anyone, but ended up hurting them worse than she could've imagined. She went berserk one day and almost killed the one person she loved.
She was given chance after chance because her friend knew that it wasn't her that was doing all these terrible things, but what had been done to her. She was given a necklace and a head piece to control her powers until she became strong enough to control them herself."
I said quietly. I paused for a few moments. "She was an absolute monster when she couldn't control anything. She had hurt people she cared about. But, she was given chances. So, that's why I pushed so hard for you. I didn't want you to end up like her, but instead be put on the good path sooner." I said.
I got up to walk out. "Where is she now?" "Right in front of you." I said. I had never opened up to someone like this before.
She'd didn't say anything for a long while. So long, I wasn't sure if she had remembered how to talk.
"I'm going to go and treat this wound. I will be back to talk to you." I said, struggling to get up. She didn't say anything but stare at me.
I walked to the door and opened it. "Thank you." It was so soft, I almost thought I had imagined it. "Of course."
