Nahida held tightly onto Wanderer's hat as the wind hit their faces. She needed two hands just to keep it on her head, she sat on his shoulder, and because of the wind, Wanderer shifted his hold. Draping his arm above her knees and helping her feel more secure. She looked up with a small smile, smelling the salty air and exhaling deeply.
Wanderer looked out at sea and heard her. He glanced up at her.
"Never thought you'd be nervous over a reunion."
She smiled, and kept her eyes on the city their boat was moving towards.
"I can't help it. I'm quite excited to see their progress, especially their Nen."
Wanderer rolled his eyes with a scoff.
"Nen nerd."
Nahida chuckled and playfully hit his head. She looked down at him with a playful smirk.
"Need I remind you how excited you were after mastering our version of Nen?"
He gave her another eye roll before he stayed quiet. Knowing she won, Nahida went back to look at the city they were approaching.
They were with Kite for six months. Those months were filled with knowledge, experience, and... Hell, to say the least. At least for Wanderer.
Nahida couldn't help but remember all the times his body went rigid after his first couple of Nen uses, he could barely move, like his libs were submerged in concrete.
"Is that all you can do?"
Kite was surprisingly strict when it came to Nen, especially with Wanderer. He sighed as Wanderer struggled to get up from the ground. At seeing him barely lift a knee, the hunter continued.
"You're missing the point of this, Nen is dangerous because of the bloodlust that comes with it. What's the only way to protect yourself from it?"
Wanderer rolled his eyes before gritting his teeth and standing up. Stumbling slightly before he caught himself.
"With stupid Nen."
"Language, but you're right. Nen is the only way to protect yourself from it. Being under bloodlust can cause effects, or symptoms such as..?"
Kite waited for his answer. Wanderer rolled his eyes again, something Kite had gotten used to seeing by this point.
"It can harm your body or mind. No?"
He nodded.
"Good enough. That's why I'm teaching you a wind barrier, to protect yourself from the most basic, yet most harmful form of Nen."
Even while knowing that, Wanderer still rolled his eyes during each lecture. But he learned everything even with that attitude.
While his progress kept improving, Nahida was still stuck. She couldn't harvest enough Nen to replenish her power from the leaves and grass. Thwir dmall amount of Nen, meant it would take decades for her to replenish it normlaly. Shes not spending decades in thsi world, who knows how much time has already past in Sumeru...?
So instead; she gathered all the Nen she could for those six months. From it, she formed a small creature that could do most of what she could do using Nen.
The process was fun for her, imagining body parts and slowly realizing how much Nen it actually took. She didn't try to give it a personality, focusing solely on making it indepent and capable of harvesting Nen on its own.If she could use a reserve of Nen the creature the gathered to help Wanderer and ensure their safety, then that's all she needed.
When she went to Kite with a proud smile and manifested the finished product, Kite looked at it with slightly wide eyes... Before a small smile stretched across his face.
