Ting Tong.

I kept the file on the table which I had been skimming from the last hour and rose from the chair to unlock the door. When the wooden door opened, a gigantic bouquet of lilies, roses, and daffodils greeted me.

"Ma'am this is for you," the man's head peeked from behind the bouquet. The flowers were beautiful and it was my favorite flowers.

Who would have sent it?

"I think you have delivered into the wrong room," I said, politely. He removed a card from his pocket and read it.

" Are you Emerald?" He inquired and I nodded.

"Then, this is for you." He handed me and quickly retreated to the hallways while l stood there perplexed. After a few moments, I closed the door and searched for any card that might help to discover the sender's identity. Amidst roses and lilies, there was a small note placed, and collecting it, I read: Best of luck for your first day and I love you. -A

It was from Aiden.

A small warm smile glazed my face at his sweet gesticulation.

How does he know that today is my first day? Why did he send me flowers? Were these flowers an apology or a bribe to forgive him?

A fraction of me was in bliss, but there was also an angry part. He can't send me a bouquet like nothing had happened between us.

Tick.

Tick.

The clock was ticking, an indication that it was time to leave. I kept the bouquet on the table but not before seizing a single rose from it and putting it into my bag.

Today was the first day at Roosevelt Ambience. I was thrilled, nervous and excited at the same. There was a sense of discretion and independence. I was not the caged bird, this was my sky and I will fly, no shackles of obligation can hold me back now.

Upon reaching the hotel corridor, I saw Elliot, who was waiting for me.

"Hey, are you ready to work for Roosevelt Ambiance?" He asked, curling the cuffs of his T-shirt.

"As ready as I never been," I smiled. We moved together to the cab, waiting for us.

Ride was blur, and soon, we were standing before a towering establishment, the sunlight falling on the glass windows producing a shining reflection, making it look like a diamond. Some people wander around the compound.

" Huh, this is fucking awesome, isn't it?" Elliot said, his eyes drifting from the bottom to the pinnacle of the building.

" True" I whispered, in a haze. I couldn't believe I was standing before Roosevelt Ambiance which I used to see on television and in magazines. As we entered the building after the security check, the hustling and bustling sound reached my ears. We strode on the clear floor and approached the reception.

The interior looked sumptuous and fragile; I was afraid that my clumsiness would destroy the expensive furnishings.

" Hello, I am Elliot and this is Emerald, we are interns here," Elliot said to the lady who appeared proficient and clever. Her dress was neat, and she looked beautiful, perhaps she was in her late thirties.

" Yes, I had been enlightened about you two." she removed a card and handed us. "Here, this is the card, your cabin is on the 18th floor, the map is provided in hallways as well as every floor, it wouldn't be difficult to locate your cabin and meeting halls," she explained, and we attentively heard her.

We pursued her decrees, and soon we were on the eighteenth floor and standing before my cabin. Elliot went inside his while I waited a few seconds before entering the mine.

I sighed.

Inhale.

Exhale.

When immigrated into the cabin, my eyes fell on the most elegant structure I had ever seen. There was a glass desk placed in the middle of the room, the cabinet was built with wood and had numerous files and records in it. The extensive privilege was that there was a large window, from which I could witness the spectacle of London city. I sat on the chair and swiveled it, there was a silly smile plastered on my lips.

I opened my bag and took out the photo frame from inside, it was a picture of my father and mother when I was around nine. We took this picture in our garden when my dad decided to do a barbeque. I traced the picture with my fingers, we were so happy then, and now everything has changed. I wish I could turn back time. while setting the frame on the table, my gaze glided out of the window to the sky.

Dad, I am finally working in the Roosevelt Ambiance which we both always dreamed of. Are you proud of me?

I smiled, a very genuine smile. This was it, all struggles, in the end, ripened me into the sweetest fruit. Wiggling my hand in the bag once more, I remove the rose too and placed it in the vase on the desk.

It reminded me of him.

Maybe he wasn't here with me, but his support and comfort were there. I knew it was so wrong of me to still seek these things from him when I was the one to push him far, but a habit takes time to change.

There were some papers laid on my table, I looked through them and realized that this is my work for today.

So, Emerald let's start with work, you don't want to be fired on the first day of work, do you?
