Doom.
Trepidation.
Misery.
The heaviness of these emotions had engulfed me, till the time we reached the car, distress on his exterior was still burning in my head. He was striving to fix the damage and yet again I messed up everything.
Why have I been always difficult?
We found the car and slumped ourselves inside and Andrew started driving. He also mentioned that Warren had gone to his apartment as he was feeling sick, but my head at the moment was occupied with myriad thoughts, not only with Aiden but also the mystery that why we have been summoned in urgency.
I didn't say a word after getting inside the car, the tense atmosphere lingered, as we both were trying to sort out our own reflections. Andrew looked tensed and worried, he too didn't know what had happened for his mother to call, all he knew was that his mother was crying and told us to return home as soon as possible.
As we reached imminent to my house, the ride which was filled will ominous silence was broken by the shrill sound of sirens ringing in the air. The grim feeling filled in my stomach.
As soon as the car stopped in front of my house, I pushed open the door and pulled myself out of the car. The ambulance, police cars, the medical assistants, and some police officers were standing outside. My eyes fell on the familiar figure of Emma, she was in the distance talking with a police officer.
What was happening? Why there were ambulances and police cars outside my house?
Quickly, I strode to Emma, for discovering my answers. When I came near, I saw she was crying as she talked with a police officer, there was anguish on her exterior. As soon as she noticed me, she stopped talking and wiped the tears with the back of her hand.
Her eyes fastened with mine.
The sorrow in her orbs has dulled the glee which always prominent in her gaze.
" Why are there police and ambulance? And why are you crying?" I raised question after question.
For some unknown reason, my heart was wildly pounding in my chest.
" S-Sweetheart... your m-..." her voice broke before she could complete her sentence.
" What is happening, Emma? Would you tell me!?" I shouted, my patience was thin and a vexatious feeling was flourishing inside me.
" Emerald...dear please calm down, I want you to come to my house... we can talk there," she said, in a soothing tone, composing her. However, I could feel the thick tumult which was obscured by assuring voice.
" No! Tell me what is happening. Now." I looked around, "Will somebody tell me what is going on!? and..... where is my mom?" I shouted, in the madness.
Suddenly, Andrew was standing beside me, putting his arms around me.
" Calm down, please." He told me and looked at his mother " Mom, what is happening? Why did you call us? And why are there officers and an ambulance?" He bombarded her with questions.
He too looked worried and clueless. Again, the tears started to roll from her eyes.
" Baby...S-Sandra, she left us," she whispered.
My heart stopped.
Pushing Andrew's hand from my shoulder and stepped in front of her.
" What are you saying? What do you mean she left us, only hours ago I talked with her, she was at home! Tell me where is my mom!" I quickly exclaimed.
" Dear, she is no more with us." She softly said.
The menacing feeling prospered, and my eyes narrowed at Emma.
My heart was throbbing inside my chest, boisterously.
Before I could utter a word, the officer who was talking earlier with Emma, stepped in front of me.
"Are you the daughter of Mrs. Sandra Gracia?" He was the aged man, with soft eyes but the gloom on his countenance expressed that he was not going to deliver the pleasant news.
I nodded my head, unable to be enunciated verbally.
" Miss. Gracia, we are sorry to inform you that your mother has been found dead in your house by Mrs. Emma two hours ago, she committed suicide..."
Everything stilled.
My heart. The time. The noises. The officer, who was talking to me. The breeze. Every single thing, not for the world, but for me.
Because the officer was still talking, however, there was not a single word I could decipher, time was passing yet I felt I was stuck in the never-ending chasm, the noises were chiming in the air yet my ears failed to hear, and the breeze was gliding yet I couldn't feel it and..... my heart? It was just a battered instrument that was faintly clinching on the rope of my life.
She was dead.
She committed suicide.
I closed my eyes, firstly, the picture of her happy face flashed before my eyes and then it contorted to the face, I saw for the last time, full of sorrow and madness. My lips began to tremble, and my knees weakened. The lump rose inside my throat as the first whimper of agony left my mouth followed by the tears from my eyes.
" No!" I opened my eyes and failed to withhold the impression of her broken state, I looked at Emma and the officer. " You all are lying! She can't leave me alone. She can't!" I screamed, crying.
Without waiting for their retort, I advanced to my house but halted as the fingers wrapped around my shoulders.
" Miss. Garcia you can't go inside, the inspection is going on," the officer said, stringently.
" I want to see my mother, you can't stop me," I said in desperation, as tears streamed on my cheeks. I took a step ahead; however, Emma and Andrew held me back.
" Dear, we can't see her now, but I promise you we will see her once the police executed with their inspection."
Gently, Emma whirled me around and gazed with her motherly eyes, which resulted in one more sob from my mouth.
My mother was gone.
