My entire walk to Aiden's room was in turmoil. I wanted to be there for him, take care of him but he wanted me far away from him, where he couldn't get a glimpse of my face.

When I reached in front of his room, there was a heavy silence. For a long the moment my eyes lingered on the closed door, I was so near yet so far from him. He was sleeping, and the heavy doses would not bring him to consciousness for hours. My eyes were longing to get one look at him.

Slowly, I pushed the door and went inside, like before he was peacefully sleeping, however, unlike last time, this time there was relief and certainty that he was going to be fine. I took the seat on the chair beside me. The room was cleaned, and no traces of the earlier chaos were scattered around.

I stooped my head and placed a soft lingering kiss on his forehead. He was lying stiff like wood, my eyes for a long time gazing at his defined face.

Will you ever forgive me?

Silence.

I didn't realize how much time passed gazing at him, but the opening of the door broke me from my haze. I saw Eric and Samantha enter the room.

" Emerald, sweetheart... He didn't want to–"

" I know, I was just going to sit outside but couldn't resist myself coming in, I wanted to see him with my own eyes that he was fine but I will be gone from here before he will wake up. I promise." I said, looking at the still body of Aiden.

" No Emerald, I will stay here. You are tired, you haven't eaten or taken any rest, you should go with Samantha, Wes has already gone and will come in the morning, you can come in the morning too."

" Please let me stay with him, I need to be closer to him." I implored.

His eyes softened.

" Okay, we will come early in the morning, okay?"

I nodded, caressing Aiden hand. Soon, they were gone and again the defending silence fell over.

" Aiden, do you want me to read the story for you?"

I received no answer, again.

I removed my phone and logged in to the E-book app and opened the 'Dangerous Illusion'.

" You are hurting me, my beloved." Erasmus looked away from Celestine, as his eyes filled with misery, "I didn't even realize when you became the reason for my downfall, you brought me deepest sorrow, I can't bear it."

Celestine's own eyes brimmed, as she comprehended the depths of his words.

She was cruel, wasn't she? she thought.

" You must believe me; my intention wasn't to inflict pain. All I wanted was your happiness."

" I wish I could believe you but all I can see is selfishness." Erasmus never felt any kind of agony while looking into Celestine's eyes, he felt, it only provided serenity and comfort but the very day all that seeped was bitterness.

" You had all of me, Celestine. All of me." Erasmus spoke again, " I trusted you with everything, you had the power to ruin me and you just did that. You become my devastation."

" Please Erasmus, I would never betray you, you know that, don't you? It was the circumstance that compelled me to make a decision. I can't lose you; you are everything to me."

Erasmus has never in his wildest dream thought, he would be standing against his beloved rather than standing with her.

She didn't break his trust, trust is breakable. She quenched his faith. And when the faith is quenched there is nothing left."

The sun rose, the very next day, and I disappeared from Aiden's room before he could discover a faint trace of me ever being there. Samantha brought me some clothes and the book which I asked for.

I used to linger outside the room until Aiden was conscious, which was for very short hours because of medication. Sometimes I even catch a glimpse of him when Mr. Stallard or Eric would go in or out when he was awake, Eric often gave me a reassuring smile whenever he came out of Aiden's room, silently telling me he was doing fine, others than that I never dare to step inside, while he was conscious, but also, I never lose the opportunity to sit next to him and talk or read to him when he was deep in the slumber. There was constant longing and ache in my heart just to be with him and talk about sweet nothings. This went on for two days, and I never left his side. On the third day, Eric approached me.

" He is going to be discharged now, I will take him to my house," he said.

He appeared tired, continuous up and down to the hospital had worn him out. The lines on his forehead and the heaviness under the eyes were prominent, God only knows how I would be looking because being sleep-deprived and not receiving the proper nourishment in the past days had drastically weakened me.

I nodded.

He went to the reception area to complete the paperwork.
