Knock.

Knock.

"Come in," I said, still examining the paper in my hand. In the beginning, it was challenging to execute the tasks but as I went further, giving my time, attention, and devotion, my work became skillful and effortless.

"You seem quite occupied, huh?" Hearing Elliot's voice, my head instantly cocked in his direction, while he strode inside the room and took a seat before me.

"Just completing the last file," I smiled, setting the file on the table.

I came here to call you for lunch," his words instantly drew my attention to the clock and indeed, I was surprised by the fact that the sun was in its supreme glory. "I heard that the canteen provides the best spaghetti." he rejoined, spinning the paperweight which was kept on my desk.

I beamed.

"Not even a day and you already know about the specialty, I must say I am impressed."

"I have always been the man who first looks for food then work."

The sound of laughter bloomed in the air, it felt good to have a friend like him. He was the first person after my mother whom I told about my break up with Aiden, he was there for me, I even cried one night in front of him, and he silently soothes and cheers me and also offered me his best advice and reassurance, and for that, I would be always grateful to him.

The cabin door swung open again, and Miss Maria entered, she appeared overwrought and hurried.

" Oh, thank goodness, you are still here! There is a mandatory meeting going to be held for discussion of the project, so every member should present there." She ranted, and her gaze went to Elliot, "you too are required to be present there."

" Meeting?" I inquired, perplexing looking at her.

" Yes, actually the project head would be visiting today, he would be guiding you through the whole project, everybody had to report to him."

" I thought Mr. Roosevelt was going to lead us," Elliot funneled.

"Of course, he will but the new boss will be directing all the new projects," she looked at her watch and then at us. " I should leave, there are so many preparations to be done before the meeting starts."

We stared at the entrance as she sauntered from the cabin before Elliot sigh heavily. "Seems like our lunch of that tasty spaghetti has to wait until tomorrow, I will bring something for us to eat while we can prepare for the meeting."

I gave him an appreciating smile before he resigned from the room. Grabbing the notes and laptop, I commenced writing points that can be benefited for the meeting.

The light was neither bright nor too dim, precisely accurate for the room, the comfortable chairs were surrounded by the large wooden conference table, and the water bottles, laptops, and other required commodities were positioned on it. There was a massive projector, where Mr. Roosevelt was sharing ideas related to our new project. People were stringently attentive and were discussing ideas and suggestions regarding the project. It was a very fascinating project because it not only brings profit to the company but also it benefits the under-privileged community.

This is what Roosevelt Ambiance was about, prominent for its clemency works. And I couldn't be more grateful to have the opportunity to work with them. The head which Miss. What Maria was talking about was yet to be revealed, I wondered what kind of new boss would be, would he be kind like Mr. Roosevelt? Or an arrogant wealthy kind of person?

Once Mr. Roosevelt was completed presenting the idea, the sound of clapping echoed throughout the room. There was a genuine smile existed on his countenance, and his deep orifices spoke of the moral purpose behind the project.

Mr. Roosevelt was certainly talented and ambitious to bring such an idea to life.

"As much as I would appreciate your applause," he looked around the room. "I am not the man behind this fantastic idea. The man behind this great idea will be joining us shortly, till that–" Mr. Roosevelt's speech intruded at the sharp opening of the door.

As the glass door opened, every head whirled in the direction of an entrance. Mr. Roosevelt's lips curled into a deep smile, and instantly he stepped forward. My head soon averted from Mr. Roosevelt and drifted to the entrance.

" I apologized for being late," the man entered the room like an emperor, with pride and glory.

My breathing ceased.

A spine-twisting shiver went through me, my eyes widened and my heart thumped wildly. Our eyes fastened, and as I was trapped in the warm haze of delight, the world around us crystallized too.

Aiden.

He appeared handsome, sharp, and clean exterior, the plain white shirt, and blue jeans had done justice to his appearance. For being in a formal space, his dressing was far from it. His deep forest eyes shone with mirth, while mine shone with agitation.

He smiled.

I grimace.

What was he doing here?

The sound of Mr. Roosevelt's voice cracked the clouds of illusion and returned us to reality.

" Son, it's good that you joined us." Mr. Roosevelt placed his one hand on Aiden's shoulder, and was beaming with joy and pride, "This is my nephew Aiden Stallard, the heir of Ignite Industry. I am delighted to announce that Roosevelt Ambiance and Ignite Industry are merging for this project, and Aiden will be the head of this venture. He had previously led some massive projects which brought incredible success, I hope with your efforts and skill, and Aiden's guidance we would be triumphant once again."

The heads started to nod in acknowledgment, and appreciation was heard, however, my mind was obtuse with qualms.

Why did he never tell me that Roosevelt Ambiance belongs to his uncle? Was this the reason he came to England? But he told me that he came for me, did he lie? Moreover, he was going to be the director of the project and that purely insinuates that I had to work under him. He would be having authority to terminate me, whenever he desired.

I was running from the imbalance in my life, how incredible it was to bite me back in an unexpected and fragile period when I was endeavoring to withstand the ripple of uncertainty.

My lips trembled, and I squirmed in my seat.

Why are you doing this, Aiden? Wasn't breaking my heart enough for you? Why are you tarnishing the last string of hope that was keeping me sane from all the uproar in my life?

"It would be an honor to work with you all," he said in professionalism, looking around the room and lastly settling his eyes on me. I looked away, my shoulder- sagged in doom, and tears were burning in my eyes, I hate him so much for stealing my work and freedom. Working here meant that I would be the puppet on his strings, one tug and I had to be his devotee.

He initiated reciting some business ideas which I wasn't attentive to due to my ragged breathing. My lungs were restrained, the havoc was ragging in my heart, and I knew I couldn't break down here.

My chair made a screeching sound as it was pushed back and I rose from it. All heads whirled abruptly in my direction, to contemplate the sudden chaos I surged.

"I want to use the restroom, please excuse me." With that in a hurry, I advanced out of the meeting room.
