Chapter 9

"Shefali beta, Aarohi ko uske karmre me leke jao," Manjari told Shefali.

Shefali nodded and gestured for Aarohi to follow her. As they were striding to Abhimanyu and Aarohi's room, Shefali could see Aarohi rubbing her palms on her lehenga. She looked anxious.

"Don't worry, room decorated nahi hai," Shefali reassured Aarohi's nervousness. The family knew what their relationship was and also knew that decorating their room for their wedding night would make the situation more awkward for them.

"Hmm."

They entered Abhimanyu and Aarohi's room.

"Main Roohi aur Shivansh ke paas ja rahe hoon. Tumhe Roohi ki tension na lo, main sab sambhal loon ge."

"Okay, Bhabhi," Aarohi said and Shefali went out. Aarohi went to the dresser and started removing her hairpins. Soon, Abhimanyu entered the room.

"Help chhaye?" He asked as he saw Aarohi struggling with the hairpins. She nodded with a relieved sigh. Why do brides have to go through this pain?

He strode near her and started removing the bobby pins from her hair one by one. Twenty pins secured his now-wife's hair bun. He then removed the gajra, placing it on the dresser.

Aarohi mumbled a small 'thank you' , took her clothes from the closet and went to the bathroom to change.

She came out wearing pj's and told him, "Ab tum ja ke change karlo." While Abhimanyu took his change of clothes, Aarohi rummaged through her side of the closet which was arranged by her and Shefali a few days before the wedding. She took out a folder in which she collected ideas and inspirations of how she wanted her glamorous wedding to be. She collected pictures of her wedding attire, how the wedding hall should be decorated and how all the wedding functions should be held. She planned on telling Neil and giving him this folder when they both told their families about them. She looked forward to their wedding but it all went away when they had to get married in a Mandir because both families were against their wedding. She just wanted her goal to be complete while marrying Neil and there was nothing wrong with it. If she planned to run away after marrying Neil, then that would've been wrong. Her focus was securing a job while also being in love and having a healthy marriage. If she could achieve her dreams through her marriage with Neil what was wrong with it? And when she got married again she thought it wouldn't look nice if they had a grand wedding so she didn't tell anyone her wish. She was a bit disappointed in the ways things worked out but grateful for all the blessings God showered upon her.

The bathroom door clicked and she turned to see him changed into a gray t-shirt and black joggers. He looked slightly handsome to her. It may be because they are married now. People say that marriage has the power to bring two souls together but then why did marriages end? Wasn't the power of marriage enough?

She snapped out of her thoughts as Abhimanyu said, "Roohi, kamre mein so gaye Shivansh ke saath. Dono bache thak gaye shaadi ke ghar mein."

"Okay. Toh plan kya hai. Sona hai yah..." She quickly hid her folder and closed the closet.

"Movie dekhe?" He asked.

"Konse?"

Abhimanyu picked up his tablet and opened Netflix, he searched for Hindi movies and gave Aarohi his tablet to pick one.

She took the tablet and scrolling through movies, she said, "Dil Dhadakne Do, perhaps."

"Okay."

The next thing you know, they were in a blanket all cuddled up watching Dil Dhadakne Do. Aarohi's head was on Abhimanyu's shoulder, her arms wrapped around his. When the intermission came, he peered to his left through his peripheral view and saw his wife sleeping. He turned off the tablet and made her lie in bed. He covered her properly with a blanket and pecked her forehead, he closed the lights and went to sleep.

The following morning, Aarohi's sleep was disturbed by her daughter.

"Matashree." Roohi kissed her mother's cheek while giggling. Her matashree turned sides with clinking voices. The little girl peered at her mother. Her matashree looked different with the choora in her hand and the mangalsutra on her neck. But she was still her matashree and now her poppy was her papa. The child was on cloud nine at the thought.

"Utho na. Poppy kab se tyaar hai. Aur Dida keh rahe thi ke apki cheli ras (pehli rasoi) hai aaj."

"Kya." Aarohi jumped out of bed and told her daughter to go to her poppy. She headed over to the washroom and quickly showered.

Applying lip gloss, she finished her makeup. Her hair was open and her eyes went to the mangalsutra on her neck. It was a sign she was married. Not to Neil but to his brother. She applied sindoor and headed downstairs.

Aarohi prepared Gajar Ka Halwa and Kulfi for dessert as her pehli rasoi while for the rest of the cooking, her manjari maa, her bhabhi, and the house helpers took care of it. She tried to make the food look aesthetically pleasing and served it to everyone.

"Wah Aarohi beta, yeh toh bohut acha bana hai. Mujhe second serving chayhe." Harshvardhan praised his daughter-in-law.

"Sure, Papa. Aapko jithna khana hai utna hi lijiye." She scooped the Kulfi and served it on Harshvardhan's plate.

The children finished the kulfis in one go and left the halwa as it was.

They missed the scolding from their mothers since they were late for school. Once, Abhimanyu dropped them off at the bus stand, he came back to the conversations going on for breakfast.

The Birla house was filled with giggles and joy after a long time. Manjari sighed in contentment and wished the best for the newly married couple. She prayed to her Kahna for this marriage to be successful.

Later that afternoon, Abhimanyu and Aarohi came to the children's school to pick them up. Since they had a couple of days off work, they decided to take the kids out.

His little pari came running to him saying, "Poppy."

He picked her up and kissed her on the cheek. When Shivansh came near them, he was also showered with his chachu's kisses, leaving the kid all giggly and shy.

Shivansh and Roohi sat in the back seat with seatbelts securing them. Abhimanyu got in the driver's seat and they headed to the amusement park.
