Chapter 12

July

Four months had passed since they tied the knot. Everything was getting back together. Both Aarohi and Abhimanyu formed a routine of taking care of Roohi, helping their family with their needs whilst forming a stronger bond with them.

After Aarohi's shift finished she padded to the cardiology department to see him off as he was gonna stay a bit longer than usual. She knocked on his cabin door. A "come in" was heard and she entered the cabin.

She saw a tired Abhimanyu. His schedule was tight since a fellow cardiologist who is also a good friend of his had taken a leave for a vacation with his family. The burden was shared between the rest of the co-workers. But a smile found its place when his eyes met the eyes of his lady love. He got up from his chair and strode near her.

"Shift khatam ho gaye?" He quizzed in a monotone voice to see her nod her head.

"Acha. Roohi ko sambal lena. Main usko kal manaloonga."

Aarohi shook her head with a giggle, "Woh samjhte hai ki hum busy hai aur woh hole hole samjaygi paison ki keemat. Samajdar hai humare bachi."

"Woh to hai," he felt himself smiling.

"Canteen se khalena, acha bye, main chalti hoon," she waved him goodbye and left for home.

Once she reached there, Shefali was taking care of the kids whilst Manjari was in the kitchen prepping for dinner.

Aarohi quickly freshened up and went to the kitchen to help Manjari.

"Maa, main pyaaz kaat dete hoon. Aap karayi charyai," she grabbed the knife from Manjari and started cutting the onion into big pieces. The same happened to the ginger and garlic gloves. They all were blended into a food processor.

Manjari turned on the stove and poured oil into the wok. The masala was sizzling, onion, garlic, and ginger paste were added and once the masala was cooked, fresh cut bhindi was added into the wok. Manjari closed the wok. While cooking they had been talking about stuff and a question Manjari had been meaning to ask came out, "Mujhe lagta hai, Nishtha kise ko date kar rahe hai. Tum usse puch ke toh dekho. Agar maine pucha toh vo bura manjayegi."

"Dekhte hoon main Mumma," Aarohi replied while scrubbing the dishes, Manjari rinsed.

The duo quickly prepared the dinner and cleaned the kitchen. When they were done. They joined in the living room to help Shivansh and Roohi with their homework that Shefali was supervising and helping them along.

Roohi was doodling on printer paper. Shivansh was solving his math questions. Aarohi took a pencil crayon that lay on the coffee table and helped Roohi colour it.

A phone call interrupted her. She picked up her phone to see the caller ID. It was Vatsal Bhai. She went to the foyer to take the call.

"Hello Bhai," she said sliding the button and putting her phone to her ear.

"Hello, Aaru. Roohi kaise hai?" he said. Aarohi feigned hurtness. "Wah, pehele Roohi. Main bhi exist karte hoon. Mera bhi haal chaal puch lete."

"Woh baad mein, pehele main Roohi se baath karna chahta hoon."

"Fine," she huffed and strode to the living room. "Shona, Vatsal Mamu ka phone hai, woh aapse baath karna chatein hai." Aarohi handed her the phone.

Roohi took it and put the phone near her ear, "Hello Mamu," she chirped.

"Hello bacha, kya kar rehe ho?" he asked.

"Aapse baat," she stated the most obvious thing making everyone near her chuckle.

"Mere se baat karne se pheley?"

"Homework Mamu."

"Oh, main India aane wala hoon, toh aapke liye kya layun. Mere ruh kya chaate hain."

"Main," she tapped her chin with her forefinger and said, "mujhe chocolates America wale and..." she gave a whole list of things she wanted.

When the phone call ended she handed the phone to her mother and continued doing her homework.

Aarohi kept the phone on the coffee table and asked, "Yeh saman ko maangein kis liye?"

"Secret Mumma," her mamu told her it was a surprise for her Mumma, and she didn't want to ruin it.

After dinner, Aarohi knocked on Nishtha's door. She entered and sat on the bed. Nishtha sat beside her and asked, "Bhabhi aap itne raat ko?"

"Kuch baat karne thi."

"Pucho," Nishtha said nonchalantly.

"Tumhara koi boyfriend hai?"

Nishtha's face paled, which gave away the truth.

"Yes, we want to get married and are planning on informing both families. Aap kise ko kuch na kahein, please."

"Main nahe kahunge," Aarohi promised with a smile. She was in the same position before so she knew how it felt. The jitters, the nervousness, everything.

"Tell me how you two met."

"So..."

Roohi kept her promise and made her family come over to Goenka Villa for a surprise.

"Roohi bhi na," Aarohi murmured. They had parked the car in the driveway and rang the bell.

Swarna opened the door and was surprised by them.

"Hume phone kar dete beta."

"Aapke laadli ne nahi karne dia." Aarohi said walking to the living room while holding Roohi's hand.

As she was walking she got shocked and Roohi giggled and high-fived her mamu.

"Suprise," Vatsal stated grinning.

Aarohi got out of shock and slapped her cousin's arm. He chuckled and pulled her into his embrace kissing the top of her head.

Everyone made themselves comfortable on the sofas and started conversing.

How was the chapter?

Can you guess what's coming next?

Also, I learnt something about writing and wanted to share it with y'all. So when you're writing in the third person point of view you don't have to worry about if the words you're using aren't typically how your character will say. It would only matter in the dialogues. I'll give you an example. So in Indian English you mainly say footpath but in British English, you say pavement and in American/Canadian English you say sidewalk. So if you're an Indian writing an American character. If you're writing in the third person you can write it as footpath. But if it was in first person you'd have to write sidewalk since an American won't say footpath.

I hope this helps.
