❖Chapter 17❖
It was lunchtime when Abhimanyu knocked on Aarohi's cabin. Hearing a "come in", he twisted the door knob swinging the door open and stepped in. Closing the door he said, " Hey. How is work going so far." He sat on the arm chair.
Aarohi looked up at him and smiled. "It has been good so far. How about you?" She stood up and walked to the desk near her window, grabbing their lunch bags. Putting them on the table, she unzips her.
Abhimanyu gazed at her as she took her tiffin out. "It was okay." He pauses. "You look happy. Anything special?"
She stopped the bite of roti filled with karela from entering her mouth to say, "Nothing special. I delivered a health baby. And the excitement of the husband rubbed off on me. It's heartwarming to see a father being elated when his daughter steps into the world."
"Oh." He opens his tiffin, and grabs a fork from the lunch bag to eat his salad.
They continue having lunch with their conversations playing the role as a catalyst of entertainment, strengthening their relationship.
When they finish he pops the question out they had left in the car. "Now tell me. Did I make you uncomfortable?"
"No Abhi. It's... it's just... I was nervous and I felt a bit awkward. You know... I know I had said to give our relationship an hundred percent but it's easier said than done."
"So you didn't like it?" he felt disheartened.
"No, I really like it." She brings her hand close to his enclosing them with reassurance.
"So, we can do it again?" The frown on his face turned into a cheeky smile.
"Yes, but not here! I don't like PDA." She said.
"Okay."
Then the conversation shifted about Roohi. They started making plans on pampering Roohi to make her feel better and have a heart to heart conversation so they can guide her through the trauma she faced.
⁂
Aarohi walks down the stairs to the living room. Shivansh and Roohi were watching Ninja Hatori. Abhimanyu was in the shower, while she wanted to have a chat with Roohi about the rising conflict between her so called friends. She sits on the armchair, which was adjacent to the couch.
Roohi glanced through her peripheral side and stood up, sitting on her Matashree's lap. She placed her head on her bosom soaking in the love. Meanwhile Abhimanyu had come downstairs looking at the duo with admiration but before that he went back to make sure the bathroom floors were mopped and his towel was hanged on the hook.
He sat on the couch beside Shivansh. The little boy had a little pout his gaze lingering to the mother daughter duo. He's missing Parth and Shefali. His parents had gone out to get their passports renewed.
Abhimanyu tapped on Shivansh's shoulder, gesturing him to hug. The kiddo's eye gleamed as he scooted over to his chachu's embrace, resuming watching his cartoon.
On the TV, the credits for the episode started playing. Abhimanyu grabs the remote from the coffee table and switched off the TV.
"Hey!" The kiddos whined in unison.
"No more TV for both of you. Tomorrow is a school day so finish your homework. If you need any help. Don't hesitate. I'll help you," he said strictly.
He stood up and and forwarded his hand. Shivansh holds it and gets up. By the time, Roohi was on her feet with aarohi still sitting down. The two went upstairs to their study room. Meanwhile, Abhimanyu gazed around, seeing the path is clear, he gets close to Aarohi and gives her a kiss on the cheek, while she was busy scrolling on her phone.
"Get up lazy ass!" He caresses her right cheek where the kiss still lingers.
Aarohi froze with the unexpected gesture. She rose and pecks his lip. "Tit for tat." With a coy smile, she strode upstairs.
Abhimanyu runs upstairs. Together they help the kids with their homework. When they were done. It was dinner time. The Birla family ate dinner, having conversations consume their time.
It was 9:40 PM when Roohi laid in bed with her matashree on her right and her poppy on her left.
She shared how her friends who bullied her were called to the principals office. How their parents had scolded them, how they apologized to her. Though she said she didn't have any friends she was happy.
Aarohi hugged Roohi, pecking her forehead. Abhimanyu told Roohi a bedtime story. The kid fell asleep, when the story was midway. The couple smiled and tucked Roohi in. They left the room and walked hand-in-hand to their room.
Once, the door was closed. Abhimnayu cupped Aarohi's cheeks softly and kissed her. Aarohi's palms cluchted his T-shirt while she deepened the kiss. He stopped the kiss and gazed at her lovingly.
I love you he said in his mind. She questioned him through her eyes. Mumbling a "nothing" he placed his lips on hers again.
