❖Chapter 14❖
"Woh kitne strict hai?"
"Mrs. Khan se bhi jada."
"Tum mere saath rena." Iravan clasped their hands together, giving her a small smile.
Nishita's eyes travelled to his face, framed with curly locks, and his charming smile. "I'm with you!" she said. He brought their clasped hand close to his mouth and pecked on the back of her hand.
He mouthed a "thank you". She shook her head and wrapped her arms around his torso. They were embraced at that moment when a phone call interrupted them. Iravan took his cell phone out of his pocket and accepted the incoming call. He talked for a while and ended the conversation. He pocketed his phone and said, "It's an urgent meeting. We'll talk at your house, okay?"
"Okay."
He gave her a quick kiss, got in his car, and drove away. Minutes passed by until Nishita got out of a daze. She chuckled and walked into her office building.
⁂
In the evening, the Birla household was crisp as freshly laundered sheets. The aroma of masaley and fritters filled the mansion. All the fancy plates were out, the living room was spritzed with room fresher, the floors were mopped, and the sofa pillows fluffed.
Later, the doorbell rang. Manjari opened the door and pleasantries were exchanged with the guests. Everyone took a seat. Nishita was called downstairs. She came down with a tray of chai and served it. She took a seat and smiled at the guests.
The coffee table was filled with chai cups, pakoras, biscuits, and naamkeens.
First, both the families chatted, getting to know each other.
Then the most awaited moment came, when Anandvardhan asked, "Mere beti ko khush rako ge?"
"Ji, Uncle." Iravan was barely able to utter those words.
Ananadvardhan asked more questions while Iravan answered them honestly. The same was done for Nishita. Iravan's mother, Pankhuri Chawla asked Nishita questions. Such as: what she wants to do after marriage! Whether she wants to live with his parents or live separately after marriage.
Once, both families were satisfied with their child's choice. They agreed to the alliance.
The roka was done and the Chawla family exchanged goodbyes and headed home.
⁂
The bathroom door clicked, and Aarohi stepped out and walked to the dressing table. She picked up her moisturizer squeezed the last bit out and applied it on her face. Placing it back, she applied chapstick and braided her hair.
Abhimanyu entered the room and the couple lay in bed. "Roohi so gaye!" he said. "Woh toh sone ka naam hi nahi lay rahe thi."
"Yeh sab naya hai uske liye. Akele room mein sone ki adaat ho jaye gi baad mein." Aarohi tucked herself in the blanket.
"Hmm." He agreed.
"Ek question puchon?" she asked.
"Go ahead." Abhimanyu turned to the left side, in her direction.
"Tumne Iravan se koi question nahi pucha. Anisha ke waqt toh, itne over protective the. Bechare Kairav Bhai. Abhi tak taras aa raha hai mujhe."
"Kisne kaha maine koi jaanch partal nahi ki. Pura background check kia hai." He scoffed.
"You chor! Waise kya pata chala is jaanch partal se?" Her curiosity piqued.
"Yahe ki he's an honest man"—he loves Nishita so much— "I'm satisfied with the search. He'll keep Nishita happy." Abhimanyu looked her in the eye and he grabbed her arm lightly and pulled her close to him. They tangled up and Abhimanyu left a lingering kiss on her forehead saying, "Good night."
I know. I know this is a short chapter. But this is all I could write.
