Hi all,

Hope you're well 🤗 this was a piece I wrote for @altpoetryprompts on Instagram December prompt, "Conversation With A Crow", which I was excited to write because I love these mysterious birds! I took some general facts about them as well as lore, and here is my piece!

"I've always had an appreciation for the almighty crow,
Widely considered an omen of bad luck, why?
I'd love to know!
I wonder what crows would think, would they even bat an eyelid in a wise old blink?
Before taking to the skies, unfurled wings flapping as they surely fly,
How anyone could not like any feathered friend....
I will always wonder, 'why?'

It's funny, thinking back,
I've seen many a crow in passing,
Quietly admiring them in their nature of contemplating;
Their black wings as dark as night everlasting,
Pausing to observe these stealthy birds,
As they explored a garden bed,
Colourful flowers popped, contrasting!
I wondered if the crow knew I was watching, as it delicately pecked beneath earth, digging for a tasty grub,
Why, the crow surely captured my attention, more so than the beautifully bright shrub!

Feathers darker than ink,
Upon sight, for some, upon spying a crow,
Their hearts do sink, for fleeting feeling of negative superstition -
Which, okay, love to everyone,
But such superstition makes me want to scoff my head in silent derision!

Oh, calamitous crow,
With your wingspan that stretches over 39 inches,
Glossy midnight feathers, glisten as you preen, a joy to be seen!
Your intelligence is effervescent,
You're as wise as the skies you soar through, an enigmatic creature to spot!

A 'murder' of crows is your collective noun,
Living in such large groups, prepared to defend your flock,
Maintaining your noun in such renown!
Admired and appreciated by some,
Perhaps, in writing this piece,
A conversation with a crow has begun,
As I raised my camera to capture this hungry bird,
It raised its feathers and took off,
Without a moment's word!"
