Outfit for this chapter (excluding the beginning and flashback):
Stefan opened his front door. He had just come from Elena's where she told him that Damon killed Jeremy, but luckily, he had the Gilbert ring on his finger, so he'd live. But what Damon did was still reckless, and Stefan needed to talk to Damon about it, because what if Jeremy didn't have the ring on?
As soon as he entered, his foot collided with a plastic bag. The vampire knelt, looking through the bag finding cat stuff. Stefan's eyebrows furrowed. Why would a bag of cat stuff be out in the hall? They didn't have a cat. His thoughts were dismissed when a cat came up to him meowing, leaving paw prints of blood in a trail behind it. If Stefan's heart still beat, it would've stopped.
Quickly, he sped to the living room where the cat came from seeing a sight, he thought he'd never see. His brother was sitting on the floor with tears rolling down his cheeks, and his hands lay limp by his sides, covered in blood. He was looking down where Rapunzel's head was on his lap, as her cornflower blue eyes stared lifeless back at him. There was a hole in her chest where dried blood covered it. Her heart wasn't beating. She was dead.
Stefan got over his shock and grief, feeling purely anger. "What happened?" Stefan asked, almost praying that his brother would tell him that it wasn't him.
"It was all my fault. I was angry, and I just -" Damon started explaining, half stuttering in guilt and regret. Tears were freely leaking out of his eyes, which now looked to Stefan.
"So, you just killed her!" Stefan raged. Killing Jeremy, he could forgive as Jeremy would come back. But Rapunzel wouldn't. From what both brothers knew, she wouldn't come back. It was impossible.
Damon placed Rapunzel's head gently on the ground, closing her eyelids before standing up to face his brother properly. "I didn't mean to. I would never purposefully-"
"Kill her?! Well, you did, Damon!" Stefan interrupted, "And to think I thought that she actually meant something to you!"
"She meant more to me then you'd ever know!" Damon yelled back, "It was a mistake!"
"A mistake?! Damon she's dead! Rapunzel's dead! What are you going to tell everyone else when they asked how she died? "Oh, it was just a mistake so everything's fine"? No, Damon! I let you get away with a lot, but this has gone too far! She was innocent!"
"Everything's not fine and I never thought it would be, Stefan, but it's not like I'd ever mean to hurt her! She was the best part of my life, and-"
The brothers fighting was interrupted by someone taking a deep breathe. The Salvatore's heads snapped back to where the noise originated, only to see Rapunzel sitting up, clutching her healing chest with tears running down her face. She looked traumatized, but the brothers, especially Damon, didn't focus on that. Both vampires rushed towards the girl, helping her up, steadying her. They were in disbelief, so sure that she was dead, and would never come back.
