CHAPTER FIFTY
TRANSLATIONS

Aaron, Kimmy, Dustin and Steve were in the Scoops Ahoy staffroom. Dustin was sat on the only seat at the small table, Aaron was sat up on the counter, leaning against the textured windows, Kimmy was sat on the floor leaning against the back wall and Steve was pacing in thought, eating a banana as he did so.

The four had listened to the same Russian recording Dustin had captured on his radio about a million times, and Aaron was growing bored of hearing the same thing on a constant loop.

Dustin leaned over and switched the tape off, looking up to Steve with a hopeful look. "So what do you think?"

"It sounded familiar." Steve hummed thoughtfully.

"Hm, since when are you fluent in Russian, Steven?" Kimmy teased him with the tips of her lips tugging up when Steve jokingly rolled his eyes at her.

"No, I mean the music, idiot." Steve retorted in a lighthearted manner. "The music right there at the end."

"Why are you listening to the music, Steve?" Dustin asked, eyes blown wide with disbelief. "Listen to the Russian! We're translating Russian!"

"I'm trying to listen to the Russian," Steve retorted, growing more and more frustrated. "But as Kimmy so kindly pointed out, I don't speak Russian. And, there's music in the back-"

"Alright," Robin sighed as she pushed the door to the little room open with a tired expression. "Babysitting time is over. You need to get in there."

Steve took about a million surprised steps back to the point he was in line with Dustin's seat. A panicked look crossing his face when she looked to the board that now had the Russian alphabet written on it, Steve having rubbed out whatever Robin had previously written down.

"Hey, my board!" The girl gasped in surprise, snapping around in surprise as she looked to the four culprits. "That was important data, shitbirds."

"I guarantee you, what we're doing is way more important than your data." Dustin retorted calmly, Steve nodding smugly from where he stood next to him, folding his arms over his chest.

"Yeah?" The older girl scoffed carelessly. "And how do you know these Russians are up to no good anyways?"

The younger three of the group glanced to Steve with exasperated expressions, each of them looking at Steve with a disappointed stare.

"How does she know about the Russians?" Dustin asked him firmly, the boy incredibly annoyed that the girl now knew about their plans.

"I don't know," Steve shrugged, his mouth still full as he ate his banana.

"Steve!" Aaron exclaimed, causing the older boy to turn to the blond. "You told her about the Russians didn't you-"

"It wasn't me!" Steve defended himself with wide eyes.

"Hello? I can hear you." Robin rolled her eyes at the two boys, thankfully cutting their bickering short. "Actually, I can hear everything. You guys are extremely loud."

Aaron rolled his eyes, knowing it was most likely him and Steve she had been referring to seeing as they had been bickering most of the time.
