The first rays of sunlight spilled through the open balcony, casting a warm glow over Niharika's face. A soft flutter of her lashes marked the moment she stirred, her mind still caught in the haze of exhaustion. As awareness seeped in, a dull ache spread through her body, making her wince. She shifted slightly, feeling the cold, hard floor beneath her-a stark reminder of the night before.
With a slow, careful motion, she rubbed her temples, trying to push away the heavy fog of emotions clouding her thoughts. But it was futile. Memories of the previous day flooded her mind-the chaos, the betrayal, the suffocating weight of circumstances she had never asked for. Her throat tightened as unshed tears pooled in her eyes, but she quickly blinked them away. Crying wouldn't change anything.
Summoning what little strength she had, Niharika pressed her palms to the floor, attempting to stand. A sharp jolt of pain shot up her spine, forcing her back down with a gasp. Just as she gathered herself to try again, a soft knock echoed through the quiet room, making her heart jump.
Dragging herself to the door, she took a deep breath before pulling it open. Mira, one of the household staff, stood there with a tray covered in neatly folded clothes.
"Good morning, madam," Mira greeted with a warm smile. "Shreya madam asked me to bring these. She said you should get ready and come downstairs soon."
Niharika nodded weakly, murmuring a quiet thank you as she took the clothes. She barely had the strength to close the door before leaning against it for support, her chest rising and falling heavily.
This was her reality now.
Taking a deep breath, she willed herself to move, heading towards the bathroom. The warmth of the water did little to wash away the exhaustion clinging to her, but it soothed her aching muscles just enough to make her feel human again.
