Five Months Later.

Maanveer was in his office when the phone rang, its shrill tone breaking the silence. He picked up and listened intently to the man on the other end. His grip on the phone tightened, and his breathing quickened, but he remained silent until the call ended. Without hesitation, he grabbed his coat and walked out of his office, his movements urgent but controlled.

He got into his car, started the engine, and drove away. His fingers clenched around the steering wheel as the city lights blurred by, but his thoughts were focused on one thing: the hospital.

After twenty minutes, his car came to a halt in front of the tall glass facade. He did not wait for the valet, nor did he look at the guards who bowed in acknowledgement. His legs propelled him forward as if by instinct, his heart beating against his ribs. He was tense, his body coiled like a spring, but this did not deter him.

His steps were quick as he sprinted down the hospital corridor, ignoring the hushed whispers of nurses and patients. The sterile scent of antiseptic filled his nostrils, but all he could think about was the ICU at the end of the hallway. His hands pushed the door open with force, causing it to creak slightly.

And there she was.

His breath became still.

Niharika lay on the hospital bed, her delicate face contrasted against the stark white of the sheets. The sight of her, so fragile yet heartbreakingly beautiful, caused his chest to tighten painfully.

He moved slowly, hesitantly toward her, as if afraid she would vanish into thin air. His hand trembled as he reached out, his fingertips barely touching her skin. The warmth was present—real and palpable. His vision became blurred.

She is the same woman for whom he has been waiting for the past five months.

The weight of those months, the countless sleepless nights, the suffocating guilt, and the fear of losing her—it all hit him at once.
