Niharika sat by the window, staring into the distance, her thoughts entangled in a web of emotions. The dim light of the evening cast a soft glow on her face, emphasizing the moisture in her eyes—though no tears flowed. She was not crying. She was simply lost in thoughts that weighed more than she could bear.

Disha entered the room with two cups of tea. Without saying anything, she handed one to Niharika and took a seat beside her.

Niharika accepted the cup with a slight smile, but Disha was not fooled. She studied her intently, looking for an expression, a hint, or something—but for the first time, she found nothing.

It unsettled her.

“What are you looking for?” Niharika inquired, breaking the silence.

Disha hesitated before responding, "Nothing..." I was just trying to understand you. But it feels like…”

"Like I am keeping something from you?" Niharika completed her sentence for her, her voice steady but distant.

Disha nodded.

Niharika's lips were touched with a smirk that was cold. "You are correct. I am hiding something. Just like you would with Shaurya."

The taunt hung between them, laden with unspoken truths. Niharika lowered her gaze, tracing the rim of her cup.

Disha sighed. “I know you understand everything. But I do not have another option. I need him in my life right now and am willing to go to any length for it."

Niharika's eyes flashed with something unreadable before she inquired, "Does Tanish know?"

Disha shook her head. “No.”

"Great," Niharika muttered, letting out a bitter chuckle. "So, we have reached a point where we no longer share our problems and emotions with one another?"

“It’s not like that,” Disha defended. I will tell you everything. But first, I need to make him mine. After that…” She paused before asking, "But tell me what I am thinking—is it true?" I mean, you—”

Niharika cut her off. “We’ll talk about this when we’re both ready,” she said firmly. “Right now, we’re using each other, and for years, it never interfered with our friendship. But things have changed.”

Disha knew she was correct. That was the problem with Niharika—she always was. So, she didn’t argue. She simply nodded.

Silence settled between them. Not uncomfortable, but still heavy.
