***Authors Note: Hey sorry I took such a long break from writing for a while. Honestly, I completely forgot about this story and sort of figured no one read it. But I was going through my drafts and remembered this story and decided to pick it back up since I now have more time in my schedule to write. I'll try to make these updates more frequent from now on though. Anyway, this chapter is much shorter than the past chapters but I have the next chapter already in the works so be ready for that! Anywayyyyyyy, ENJOY! <3
A mixture of snot and tears ran down your face as you sobbed loudly for all to hear. Most pretended not to hear or see you after the initial reaction and continued with their night. But Newt's words struck a nerve that needed to be struck a long time ago. It was your own damn fault that he turned away from you. You pushed him away one too many times, and he was done with you. After ugly sobbing for a good while, you felt a pair of hands land on your shoulders. Slowly and drunkenly, you lifted your head and turned around to see two familiar faces above you, both holding pitiful looks at you. There stood Thomas and Brenda, Brenda's hands landing on your shoulders. Brenda made her way to your side and plopped down next to you.
"Hey, I heard what happened..."
"Oh, so you saw Newt snap on me." You mutter while wiping your snot covered nose on your sleeve.
"No, I didn't see it... Newt talked to us." Brenda held a gentle gaze at you as you stared at her patiently waiting for what he told her. "He's distraught, y/n. I've never seen him so..." she paused, looking for the right word.
"So...?" You lead her on.
"Broken." Thomas spoke up as he sat on the other side of you. "He's so afraid he was too harsh with you and hurt you. He couldn't bear coming back to you only to surely see you... well, like this."
"Really?" You asked with slurred speech. Thomas just nods.
"Hey, how about we get you into your room." Brenda suggests.
"No!" You protest. "I want to go see Newt!"
"Y/n, it's late, and I think you both need some time to just think." Thomas advises.
"Don't tell me what we need! I know him better than anyone else here, and I know what's best for the both of us, so if you will excuse me, I'm going to go talk to him!" You argue back, letting the alcohol talk for sure. You stand up, unsteady and eyesight blurred.
"Y/n!" Brenda called out to you, sounding already exhausted trying to get through to you. She sighs as you continued your way towards your hut or what you thought was towards your hut.
"Wrong way, Y/n!" Thomas calls out.
"I knew that." You responded, very clumsily stammering to turn to the right a bit to head the right way.
"Nope, still not it!" You feel a shoulder get shoved under your armpit and lift your posture straight.
"At least let us get you to him safely." Brenda smiles at you and rolls her eyes. Thomas got under your other arm and the two of them practically carried you all the way there. When they got to the hut, they set you by your door, attempting to fool you in hopes you forgot what your initial mission was and would just pass out in your own bed. But as soon as they got you to your door you yelled out "No! No, you need to take me to Newt!" You slobbered over your words as your head hung heavily tilted to the floor. You no longer used your own strength to keep yourself up. You relied on your two friends keeping you upright and hopefully they wouldn't drop you.
"You will. Just lay down first, okay?" Brenda spoke softly, almost making you fall asleep just by the comforting nature of her tone, but your goal was still prevalent and you needed to see him and apologize. But your legs did not work and neither did your words anymore. Incoherent babbling spilled out of your mouth and your eyes seemed glued closed.
You don't remember much after that. The next thing you remember is feeling a warm cloth being laid over you as you drooled messily on the pillow below you.
"Newt." You muttered sadly. You wanted to see him. You had to see him. Where is he?
"I'm right here, I'm not gonna leave you."
Your eyes shot open, your eyesight not adjusting right. After rubbing them for a few moments, you opened them back up again to see Newt knelt beside your bed.
"Newt!" You begin to sit up, but dizziness overwhelms you and you slam back down.
"Hey, easy sunshine. You don't need to get up."
"But-" you begin to protest, but Newt cuts you off. "You need to rest, okay? Just relax and take it easy, okay?" Newt gives you a gentle smile, his eyes never leaving you the whole time.
"I'm so sorry." You pitifully squeak out.
"Shhh-"
"No, I am! I'm sorry! I never meant... I never... I didn't... I don't like him like that. It was a mistake. I fucked up. I'm sorry, I'm so so so sorry!" You stop speaking as Newt places a hand on your forehead, rubbing it gently. He then takes your strands of hair that have fallen in front of your face and tucks them behind your ear. You couldn't help but grin at this.
"We can talk more about it tomorrow, y/n. Right now we both need some rest and to start the day new tomorrow." With that, he begins to stand up and you can tell he's about to tell you goodnight.
"No!" This catches him off guard, "Please don't go!" You're not sure where that boldness came from. Probably the alcohol talking, but you didn't care. You wanted him there with you. You didn't want him to leave your side.
He stutters as he says "W-where do you want me to stay? There's no place for me to sleep here."
"There's my bed." You respond quickly. Again you have no idea where all of this was coming from. Words just came out without any thoughts about it. Newt gave you a shocked and flustered look at you as you stared up at him with doe eyes.
"Y/n, you don't know what your talking about. You're drunk and-"
"I know exactly what I'm saying, Newt! And I know exactly what I want." You sat up on your bed to sit at the edge of it, somehow holding yourself up from tumbling back into a ragdoll. You stared up at him the whole time just as his eyes never left yours either. "I want you, Newt."
Newt stayed speechless for a few moments, almost unsure what to do. You could tell even through your unsteady vision that you had an effect on him, an effect you didn't know you had the capabilities of giving him. His cheeks were now burnt red, his eyes darted slightly, and his breath began to hitch, holding on to every single word you spoke to him.
"I need you, Newt." You spoke after he didn't respond for a while.
"Y/n, I..." Newt began but bit his lip in between his sentence.
"What, Newt? I'm not asking for much. I just want you to stay with me. Keep me safe and warm." His eyes fell to the floor in contemplation. With boldness, you grabbed his chin and lifted it to make him look at you. "Please." You said simply. You watched as his walls caved and he nodded his head. "Okay, I'll stay with you." He spoke softly.
You scooted over in your already cramped twin sized bed as Newt hesitantly laid down in the small section of the bed you made for him. Your foreheads were now almost touching as the two of you lay cramped on your sides staring at each other.
"Comfy?" He asks you, letting his guard down now and letting out a small laugh.
"Psh! No!" You laughed as you wiggled around in the bed trying to get comfy. "I have a better idea!" You spoke up.
"Oh yeah?" Newt asks amused, "what?" You quickly showed him by plopping your head straight down onto his chest, nestling into the soft feeling of his shirt. You felt his breath hitch again as you did this and grinned to yourself as you knew you had this effect on him. His stiffness settles down though and he allows himself to enjoy this moment with you. He hesitantly laid his hand at the top of your head and stroked your hair soothingly. You purred at this feeling and felt yourself nodding off.
"Goodnight, Newt." You muttered sleepily.
"Goodnight. Sunshine."
