ENJOY!
You and Newt are now sitting side by side, feet dug into the sand below you as you both stare out into the sea. The moon hangs low over the ocean, its silver glow casting a mesmerizing shimmer over the rippling waves. The sound of the tide kissing the shore fills the quiet air as you nestle your head onto Newt's shoulder, your body warm from the alcohol you indulged in earlier. You both had embraced each other for a while before nestling here on the ground. This is all you wanted. A feeling of serenity and peace with Newt without the looks and comments from your group of friends. You loved them dearly but you felt as if you were going to make no progress with Newt if they kept intervening. You hadn't said much for a while, just watching the water splash softly against your feet as the tide crept higher. Newt, ever so perceptive, glances down at you, sensing your quiet shift in mood after what had been an easy conversation only moments before. His voice is soft and gentle, his concern lacing every word.
"Everything okay, Y/n?" he whispers, his gaze searching yours, trying to read the silence.
"Just thinking." You sigh, lost in the beauty of the moment.
"Did I do something wrong?" His voice is so sincere, it tugs at your heart. You can't bear the thought of him thinking he's anything less than perfect in this peaceful moment.
"No, Newt. You could never do anything wrong." You whisper, your hand finding his arm, gently tracing the line of his bicep with your fingertips. "You're perfect."
He chuckles softly, the sound like a soothing melody in the quiet night air. "I think you're talking about yourself," he teases, his hand moving to rest on your head, fingers running through your hair in slow, tender motions, brushing through the loose strands that flutter with the breeze from the sea.
"Don't lie to me," you reply, a soft smile tugging at your lips. "I know I make mistakes. But you're always there to fix them."
The words linger in the air, and Newt falls silent, unable to argue with the truth you've spoken. He seems to contemplate for a moment, before clearing his throat softly, shifting a little in the sand.
"You know," he starts, his voice a little more serious now, though still gentle, "if it weren't for you, I wouldn't be here. We all wouldn't be here. So, I don't really give a damn about any little slip-ups you have. When it really matters, you'll never steer me wrong."
A swell of warmth fills your chest at his words, and you can't help but smile to yourself, a quiet sense of pride blooming inside you. Maybe, just maybe, you were doing something right.
He watches you carefully as if waiting for your response, before his voice breaks the quiet again, softer this time.
"Do you feel like being with me was one of your mistakes?"
You nestle even closer to him, feeling his arm instinctively wrap around you, pulling you into his embrace as if he never wants to let you go. The warmth of his body, the softness of his touch, it all feels like home.
"No," you murmur into his shoulder, your voice thick with affection. "I think it's one of the only things I know for sure I did right."
You both sit there nestled against each other, just listening and watching the waves bring up shells to the shore. You occasionally would see one you liked and leaned away momentarily to grab one and inspect it.
