If you ever thought life was boring and plain, try having children! They give you things to do all day long, even when you don't want to. Rein and I decided to have a child before we got married, or at least she decided to get pregnant before we were married.
She got pregnant 5 months before we started planning our wedding, and everything was going great! What we didn't put into consideration, was that our wedding, was 9 months after she got pregnant.
We were enjoying our wedding, having fun and talking with friends we met in Iowa, and even Rein's parents showed up with my brother, he gave out a sincere apology to everyone and we were all catching up.
And then her water broke.
We had to rush her to a hospital and she ended up giving birth to a gorgeous baby girl. We named her Daisy, and Rein was thrilled. "I gave birth, and was married on the same day. I cannot be happier." Were her exact words.
She wanted another child after that, but I personally wanted to wait until this child had grown up a little, we could barely take care of ourselves after the baby, let alone another child. She understood and everything was fine.
Until we had the idea, to adopt a boy. When Daisy was around 6, we went to an adoption center to find her a brother, Rein was fine with it and found herself literally jumping for joy at the sight of all the cute baby's at the adoption center.
And while the ladies who took care of the babies were showing us around the boy section, one 10 year old caught my eye. Rein was looking for another toddler for Daisy to take care of, but the boy over in the corner seemed so sad. I ran away from the group and sat down next to the boy. He had black hair, and it looked like he had vitiligo too.
"What are you doin' young fella?" His face was wet from his tears but he tried to hold it in and be tough, which I admired. "Dreaming." I remember him scrunching up his nose in order to stop him from crying anymore. "I have an idea, i'll be right back, okay?" I can still recognize his thumbs up after I left.
I went to Rein and told her I had found the perfect boy, I described him to her and she nodded her head. "Excuse me!" Rein stopped the worker from walking any farther. "We know who we would like to adopt, please follow him." The worker reluctantly followed and the moment she saw the boy, her face seemed to grow narrow and her voice was in disgust. "You want that boy?"
We both only nodded, and she gave out the longest sigh. "Can't you see? He's disgusting!" She grabbed his arm, dangling his frail body. "He's skinny! And weak! You can't want him!" Rein's face was filled with anger. "We are adopting this boy and you are an adoption center who should treat all kids equally, either you give us that boy, or I file a police report." The horror on the lady's face made her easily give in.
After signing the papers and making sure we were good parents for him, we were allowed to take him home. Samuel was an amazing boy and always respected us, he played with Daisy a lot and was always a good kid. He ended up playing baseball and the day he won a baseball trophy, he gave it to Daisy, to always remember him.
Daisy ended up becoming a tattoo artist while Samuel stuck to baseball.
