Chapter 22

"Alright... let's go." I was stressing out as Thorn paid and put everything away. "How do they know where we are?" I blushed and looked away. "Rein." I sighed. "Well they can track my phone..." He looked disappointed. "Alright. Rein. We are going to go over the highway over there." He pointed towards the road and I could just barely see the beginning of the highway, I nodded and he continued. "You will chuck your phone out the window and into the ditch." 

I was taken aback, and Thorn saw my expression. "I'll buy you a new one." I was officially surprised. "How much gosh darn money do you have? There is no way you will buy me a new phone." He laughed. "Let's just say, when you're forced to bully people, you end up with a lot of money." I knew it was wrong, but I also knew he never wanted to do anything bad. We started driving and the moment we hit the highway, he opened the window and I was ready to chuck my phone, and that's what I did. My parents could no longer track me and we were heading toward Iowa!

I woke up teary eyed. "eh? what-" Thorn quickly sat up. "thorn?" He rubbed the back of his neck, making me curious about what he did, or what I did. "Thorn, what's up?" He gave me a sincere smile. "You don't remember last night?"  I thought for a moment before shaking my head. "No? What happened?" He laughed. "We made it to Iowa." My eyes shot up. "While that's cool, you didn't have to wake me up. Goodnight." And I collapsed back onto my blankets and fell asleep.

I woke up, I didn't stretch. My eyes were still shut, Thorn was whispering things in my ear, thinking I was asleep. Maybe I should get up? No. Ima just let him talk. "you know rein? you're the most beautiful girl I have ever met. and I love you, but, i've taken the hints. when I first told you, you seemed excited, but you also kept putting off the topic. and now, it seems like you just don't care for it now. don't worry, i'll be back when you're ready." 

I heard him open up the trunk, and he climbed out. Tears were forming in my eyes, I gathered myself to rush out, he was a few feet away from me. "Thorn!" He looked back and smiled. "Did you hear what I said?" I nodded, a few tears slipping. "It's for the best." I shook my head in a fast motion, the tears were growing larger with each second. 

"Thorn, don't do this to me." His smile faded, he was about to shift. "Don't worry Rein. I'll be fine, you will be fine. I promise you one thing, I will be somewhere in Iowa, and I will try to find you." And he shifted, taking off and leaving me. "Thorn!" He didn't turn his back, he just stared at me, his eyes toward the sky. 

I reached my hand out, like I could reach him, but I knew, I could never. He had left all of his belongings in the jeep, and I just stared back and the car that he left behind. "thorn, why do this to me now?" I whispered to myself, my words seeming to reach my eyes causing more pain and frustration now. My heart was racing as fast as my mind, it all happened so fast. 

I couldn't even tell him the one thing I wanted to.

"I love you Thorn, I always will."
