Chapter 90

(Serena's dress ⬆️)

"Is it to your fitting madam?"

"Yes," I breathed. I have been working all day, and last night didn't make it easier since we stayed up until dawn. The last thing I need to do is do this dress fitting and I'll be done for the day.

President Harold announced that he'll be having a masquerade ball for the new years for all the major business heads in the kingdom. It's a chance for opportunities, and to get more information about other businesses.

I still can't believe Eiser was the prince I had been looking for all this time. Through the years, I searched for him in every party, every ball, every gathering, yet, my prince was right in front of me. And he knew it, yet he never uttered a word.

When I first met him, at that party, he barely spoke but he was tall and fit. His lips were plump and he had a very sharp jaw, the only thing I couldn't see were his eyes.

I thought without the mask, those eyes would be warm and devote. But when I saw Eiser, his eyes were lifeless, unwelcoming and one's that weren't to be trusted. I didn't even consider him my prince; my prince in my mind was caring and loved. But to me, Eiser was someone who couldn't love anyone or anything. I thought he'd kill me, in fact, I still don't know his true purposes. But I can't help but fall into his embrace, I can't figure him out, yet we share such loving touches and smiles.

"Alright, I'm done. You can go now and rest now lady Serena." The lady gives a warm smile and I nod back.

"And now welcoming, lady Serena and sir Eiser!" The announcer shouted reading off his list. Eiser and I entered with our arms interlinked. I wore by blue dress with a black and blue sparkles mask.

President Harold told guests with partners to come wearing matching colors. So, Eiser and I are both wearing a dark navy blue dress and suit with gold jewelry. We're both also wearing masquerade masks decorated with blue gems on them.

"Ah, Serena, Eiser, so lovely to see you again! It feels like it has been such a long time since I saw you two." President Harold gleamed and vigorously shook our hands.

I feel people murmuring and point at us, more so Eiser.

It's been a few hours, and I've only been talking to friends and business deals with other companies. Eiser has been busy with other companies too, but Lovis is here so he's got one friend with him.

"Lady Serena, where are you going?" One of the companies heads ask. "I'm just going to freshen up before dinner starts. I'll be right back." I shine a smile before making my way to the restroom.

The hallway is long, but empty. It's almost eerie with the yellow shade from the lamps, and the clacking of my heels on the non-carpeted floor.

I hear footsteps behind me, I try to think nothing of it. Thinking it's probably another guest. The footsteps grow nearer, and it's a pair of men's shoes.

Suddenly, I'm pulled onto a corner of another hallway, and I try to scream but the person covers my mouth.

His hand, I know that touch.

I open my eyes to meet a pair of emeralds behind a mask.
