I woke up in the forest.

My brain struggled to grasp what had happened. It felt like my body had undergone a wild mutilation. But as far as I could tell, no cuts were on me.

But the air smelt of charred wood.

I stood up. A huge circle ringed me. There was no dirt left. Only a huge black circle that led to God knows where. My eyes slowly followed the circle, trying to find its end.

But it only led to woods.

Destroyed woods.

For as far as I could see, it looked like an explosion went off. Acres of trees were flat and black. And far out in the woods, I could see smoke rising. It looked like the trees were on fire. When the breeze blew past me, I smelt it. It was very faint but it was there.

Burnt leaves, grass, and trees.

I looked under me. The Earth dipped in a little. It looked like I was standing in a crater. And at the very bottom of my feet, the ground was still smoldering orange.

Frantically, I spun around, taking it all in. The trees. The crater. The fire. My head started pounding, and I smashed my fists into my temples, furiously rubbing. My heart was literally beating so loud, I could hear it. My eyes closed.

And then they shot open, releasing two Rays of light.

***MEMORY STATE***

Bodies lay dead and charred.

A village was slowly burning down. The woods, the shops, the farm.

Everything was getting engulfed in flames.

This was people's home. And it was getting destroyed by a freak fire. But it was no ordinary fire. A pillar of light shot straight up from the Earth.

Two boys stood close, waiting. One brown head, one black. Both with mesmerizing eyes. They're faces were devoid of emotion, but there was terror in their eyes.

"We have to stop her, Lu," the brow headed one said.

Lu shook his head furiously, "You know she could die, Kan."

Kan stopped, but he was obviously angry. "But look at all these people she is killing, Lu! We can't let this continue. It's our job to protect-."

Lu cut him off, "Her. Not everyone else. They are just collateral damage."

Kan just shook his head and started to walk towards the pillar of light. But just then, the light cut off. All the flames died out, and it immediately got cool.

A girl rose from the ground and turned to look towards the boys. Relief and confusion was etched into her face. Kan stopped, "Phire? Are you okay?"

Just then her head jerked back and a brutal scream leaped from her throat. Then, all it once, it fell dead silent.

Tears made lines down Phire's dirty face. She sobbed as she slowly brought her arms up. Something started appearing on each side of her back.

Lu and Kan's eyes lit up in amazement.

Wings made of flames illuminated the gloomy world.

***PRESENT***

I pushed myself off the ground.

My legs were weak and wobbly, but I had to get away from here. I didn't need anyone to confirm what happened here. I knew the cause of all of this.

Me.

Inch by inch I wobbled towards the woods. My vision was going in and out, but I didn't care. I was a monster. I killed all those people. And I destroyed that town. I destroyed what people called home. I only created destruction.

I created this warzone.

All the sudden someone knocked me down. Immediately, I started kicking and squirming, but it was no use. I couldn't see who it was because of my blurry vision. But I swear I knew the voice.

"I'm sorry, Sapphire."

A fist connected into my jaw.

They slipped a bag onto my face.

And off they carried me to my death.
