Wilbur
I stare at the array of flowers, having zero clue what girls like. I never got Connie flowers, which maybe was a reason why she cheated on me. I've promised myself that if I'm going to let myself date someone new that I have to treat her better than I did Connie. Though, I feel like I was a pretty good boyfriend to her, but apparently not.
A short, older lady appears next to me, running her freckled fingers over some bright orange flowers. "You need help, dear?"
"Uh," I chuckle. "I want to get this girl I like some flowers. What should I get her?"
"Well, that accent should be enough!" She teases, but then picks up a bouquet of small, white flowers. "My husband never failed with these."
I smile and take the flowers from her. "Thank you, miss."
"Good luck!"
I chuckle again before walking off to self check out. I pay for the flowers and some mints I grabbed for myself before walking back down the street, back to our apartment building. I'm pretty sure she's home, so I stand in front of her door and knock.
A few seconds later, it's open, but Eve isn't standing there. I could break down as I see a guy standing in front of me.
"Oh, hey!" He says, as if we're best friends. "Eve is in the shower. You need her?"
My fist tightens around the grocery bag. Sure, this guy is better looking than me, but I'm much taller, so I can beat him up. But Eve hates how I'm mean to her, so wouldn't she hate if I hurt someone? Even if it's me fighting for her? "I just had something to give her, but never mind now. I'm done trying."
He gives me a strange look before breaking into a smile. "Dude, I'm her brother."
My shoulders drop out of their tense position. I feel extremely relieved and extremely stupid. "Oh, sorry. You're Ryan, right?"
"Yeah," He steps aside, letting me in. "Are you Wilbur? The famous guy? I've heard of you before, just didn't know what you looked like."
I nod and look up as Eve walks out of her room. She has a large sweatshirt and shorts on, holding a towel to her hair as she tries drying it.
"Oh, hey Will." She wraps the towel around her neck. "Sorry I look like shit. What's up?"
Of course, she looks beautiful. "Uh," I give an awkward glance to Ryan before looking back at her; gorgeous her. "I got you flowers." I reach into the bag and pull out the bouquet, thankful that none got squished.
"Pretty!" She exclaims, her lips instantly curling into a smile. "Why'd you get these for me?"
I shrug as she takes them, lightly running her fingers over the petals. "Just... thought of you when I saw them."
Blush covers her pretty cheeks. "Thank you, Will. I've never been given flowers before."
I really do wonder, sometimes, if she's lying about her dating past. It's just insane to me how she's only had one boyfriend, and he was a shitty one.
"Wait, are you guys actually dating?" Ryan asks, now sitting on the couch.
Eve shakes her head, placing the flowers in a pink vase and pouring in a bit of water. "We're just fake dating."
I feel disappointed by her answer, especially after just gifting her flowers. But I guess she won't come easily to me. "Maybe one day,"
She smirks and glances at me. "Maybe,"
I take a deep breath and lean back against the wall, watching as she toys with the flowers. "So, you excited for tomorrow night?"
Eve raises an eyebrow at me. "What's tomorrow night?"
Realization punches me in the chest, which for some reason, makes me laugh. "Oh, fuck. I was supposed to tell you the other day but I was mad about the whole Blair thing."
She places her hands on her hips, which is honestly very cute. "What? Am I supposed to fake a pregnancy, now?"
I laugh again, quickly shaking my head. "No, no. I'm presenting an award at some event tomorrow night and you're my date."
Eve reaches forward and slaps my arm, which hurts a bit more than it should. "Wilbur! Are you serious? What if I had plans?"
"Well, do you?"
She rolls her eyes. "That's not the point. Do I have to do my own makeup and hair? Do they have a dress for me? I'm getting my new manager and team next week, they can't do that all for me."
"Oh," I whisper, trying not to smile. "Okay, that's my bad."
She hits my arm again. "Shit, Will! You're taking me shopping tomorrow. You're paying for my dress! And some makeup I have to get!"
"First of all, fine, that's fair. Second off, I'm sure the makeup you already do is fine."
Eve sighs and runs her fingers through her damp hair. "You need certain makeup for lighting and cameras and shit. I don't have all of that."
"Oh, alright." I bite the inside of my cheek as I hesitate to say my next thing. "Lastly, I'm doing interviews all day tomorrow, and David wants you to be on set or whatever for support."
I brace for her third hit as her eyes widen, but instead she just pulls her phone out of her pocket, quickly turning on the screen. "Fuck, fuck, fuck. Most stores will be closed in two hours. Okay, uh, give me ten minutes to dry my hair and put on a decent outfit then we're going. And then I'm fucking killing you for not telling me about this."
I grin at her and nod. "Alright, that's fair."
