"Just leave the door unlocked, I'll be there in a bit." I hand mom the keys and we both give her quiet goodbyes as she steps out of the room. The second we hear his front door shut, we groan, Wilbur taking the empty spot next to me.

"God, that was so fucking stressful," I groan, leaning against him. "Is it normal for my own mother to give me anxiety?"

"Mmm, not really." He takes my hand in his and squeezes it. "Smart thinking about my 'friend' smoking in here. I was terrified."

"Thank God she believed it."

"I'm so used to it, I don't even think about it being an issue for others." Wilbur sighs and leans his head against mine. "Maybe I should quit, but I say that every week."

"I'm just glad we got through that dinner. And now she's obsessed with you."

"Good," Wilbur turns to me and gives me a quick kiss. "So, is your mum a heavy sleeper?"

I roll my eyes. "Not right now."

He pouts his bottom lip out at me then nods. "Alright, fine."

"So, you excited for your birthday?"

Wilbur pulls a pack of cigarettes from his pocket and grabs a lighter from the coffee table. "Eh, I guess. Only thing special about turning 21 is drinking but I never get IDed wherever I go."

"Well, are you excited to spend your birthday with me?" I kiss his jaw and run my hand through his hair repeatedly, separating the curls.

"Of course I am," He grins at me as he places a cigarette in between his lips and lights it, taking a long puff and rolling his eyes back. "Damn, I've missed that."

My phone buzzes on his coffee table so I pick it up. I groan as I see my mother's texting me.

Mom: It's late, are you coming back anytime soon?

Me: I told you I'd be there in a bit.

Mom: Well it's almost two in the morning and I can't sleep knowing the front door is unlocked

Me: 🙃 I'll be there in a sec.

"I'll see you in the morning." I mutter, turning off my phone.

"I don't wanna sleep alone." Wilbur whines, wrapping his arm around me. "Let me sneak in. Pretend we're in high school."

I grin at him, also wanting him there. It's only been a week, but we've already gotten used to sleeping next to each other. "Fine. By the time you finish your cig she'll be asleep. Just text me when you're at the door. And don't wear shoes, your feet are already loud enough."

He chuckles and places a kiss on my cheek. "Alright, darling."

"Darling?" I bite my lip, adoring the nickname. Sure, 'babe' is cute, but darling just sounds sweeter. And, of course, his accent makes it even better.

"Can I call you that?"

"Of course," I reply as I stand up, squeezing his hand before letting it go. "See ya in a sec." I step out and into my own apartment, kicking off my shoes and walking to the guest room. I peek in the door, seeing mom sitting up in the bed with her reading glasses on, holding a book. She glances up at me and smiles.

"There you are!" She sighs. "I feel much safer now. I really do love your apartment. You've made it nice and cozy."

"Thanks, mom." I lean against the door frame. "Need anything? Water, extra blanket?"

She shakes her head. "Oh, I'm fine." She shuts her book and sets it on her night stand. "I do have to leave at noon tomorrow. Could you take me to the airport?"

I nod. "Yeah, of course. Glad you could come and meet Wilbur."

"Me too," She giggles, obviously happy that I've finally found a boyfriend who is hopefully gonna be serious. "I'll see you in the morning."

"Night night," I shut her door before going into my own room, thankfully on the other side of the apartment, but still, the apartment isn't too big. I keep on Wilbur's hoodie and change into shorts then brush out my hair and remove my makeup. Right as I finish making my bed, Wilbur texts me that he's here. I walk to mom's room and press my ear up against the door, already hearing her snoring that she always denies she does. I open my front door and put my finger to my lips, signaling him to be quiet. We tip toe to my room and I shut my door, letting out a breath of relief when we're not caught.

"Why do you care so much?" Wilbur asks, immediately messing up my freshly made bed by crawling under the covers. "You're an adult. You pay this rent. You can do what you want."

I shrug as I sit next to him, letting him rest his head against my chest. "We already get on each other's nerves, might as well not make it worse."

"Oh," He whispers, wrapping his arm around my torso. "Makes sense, I guess."

"We're taking her to JFK at noon. Whatcha wanna do the rest of the day?"

"Just chilling here is fine." Will replies with a yawn.

"All we've done this whole week is chill here. Let's go out,"

"You know I don't like to with all the harassment."

"Right," I mutter, toying with his hair. I guess I should get used to this part of the relationship being boring. I grab my laptop from my bedside table and open it on my lap. "Alright, time for another movie, I guess."
