Their current destination was their final one, before saving the entire universe. Every universe, for that matter.
The thought of it was nerve racking. Rex and RJ had to act fast before Marex and Surge caught up with them.
The Father and Son searched through the frozen, dreary version of Syspocalypstar, looking for a place to use the dimensional device.
To distract himself from his power concerns, the Young Prince questioned his father.
"How do we use that thing again? It completely slipped my mind. I've had such a...chaotic day."
"Well, your grandpa said we just send the corrective shockwave out by pressing the button here. We just need to find a good place, and confirm this is Marex's dimension."
Rex looked at a nearby billboard in the center of the city, where newsletters of the Royal Family were posted. He saw clear images of him, his wife, and his two sons.
One son that he never had was the only thing of note. That was enough to prove to him that the current location was correct.
"I think this is the place. The City seems like a good place, we just need to be higher. Even if only slightly. One of us can probably stand on that fountain in the plaza."
He looked towards RJ, who fidgeted with the device. His sorrow from not being able to spark his powers frustrated him, and it showed in his expression.
The Defender sighed, and touched his shoulder.
"You're okay, Son.""Yeah...let's just get this over with so we can get home. All of this happening so close to my birthday is crazy."
He started walking forward, and his father followed after him. He tried to cheer him up by changing the subject.
"Nineteen. Wow. That's crazy. When I turned nineteen I was in my second year of college. In Bricksburg, everyone was expected to be in college as soon as possible, to provide Business with service."
"...the more you talk about him the more he sounds like a jerk."
"Well, he was the bad guy. Most of us were blind to it, because he was a master of manipulation. But you know, bad guys have to be stopped at any cost. Which is why we have to win this."
"Yeah...I know..." RJ paused, "Sorry, that I snapped at you earlier Dad, I'm just going through it right now. Now that I've been through it, I understand where Mister Ember was coming from."
"You...do..?"
"Not in a 'starting my villain arc' way. It's more in a way that it's hard to see a way of life without power once you have it. I'm scared that without it, I won't be useful."
"That's not true. You're plenty useful, just as you are. The universe couldn't possibly have gifted me with a better son. I...can say that, right? Because you're an only child in my dimension?"
He chuckled quietly, "I guess you can."
The two stepped up the large fountain in the city, and noted it's still water. Not even the glitter floating in it shimmered in the frozen light.
"Okay." Rex continued, "Do you want to do the honors? As a new Defender of Syspocalypstar?"
RJ looked at the device in his hands, which still glowed blue from his remaining power. His expression dropped, before he looked at his father.
"Actually, Dad...I don't know if I'm ready just yet. I still have a lot to learn. I know I was so excited, and practically begged you for an opportunity but..."
