37. The Woeful Night

Mohini POV 

Now everyone is looking at Swati with somber expression. 

She notices the attention on her then flushes with embarrasment. 

She lowers her head in shame and says in low tone, 

'I am sorry for ruining the mood and interrupting you all.' 

We all recover and Naina says, 

'No, we were looking at you in wonder that you know so much and we didn't have any idea.' 

Avantika snaps her fingers and says, 

'Thats why we say to engage yourself with us. Its too bad that we don't know our friend this much even.' 

She gives a small tight smile and says, 

'Dosti sirf barabari waalon ke beech mein hoti hai, aur hum barabari ke nahi.' 

'Friendship exists only between equals, and we are not equal.' 

Naina frowns at that and says, 

'Yahin aap galat hain, hamen koi antar nahi padta ki aap baraabar hai ya nahi. Dosti dil se hoti hai, haisiyat se nahi.' 

'Thats where you are wrong, we don't care if you are equal or not. Friendship is done by heart not by status.' 

She replies, 

'Duninya ke aankhon mein hamesha hum daasi aur aap Rajkumari hi rahengi. Hum aapke dost nahi ban sakte.' 

'In the eyes of the world, I will always remain a maid and you will always remain a princess. I can't be your friends.' 

Avantika thoughtfully nods her head and says, 

'Aap sahi keh rahi hai, duninya ke aankhon mein hamesha aap daasi aur hum Rajkumari hai.' 

'You are right, in the eyes of the world you are always a maid and we are princesses.' 

Then she looks Swati in her eyes and says, 

'But without even making an effort, we started treated you as our friend.' 

I become confused by this just like Swati and Naina steps forward saying, 

'When I tried to slap Mohini, you not only stopped me but also threatened me, do you know what was going on in my head at that time?' 

Swati just shakes her head, Naina continues, 

'I wasn't angry the least bit that you did that, I couldn't bring myself to be angry with you but yes, I did got hurt that you chose her when it was clear that she betrayed us.' 

Avantika then speaks, 

'If anyone other than you had been there, that person would have been replaced. 

I didn't have this friendship at the time when you were threatening me so I felt humiliated and angry at Mohini that she did this in front of a mere servant.' 

Naina looks at her with soft gaze and says, 

'Can't you see the difference in both scenarios?' 

Avantika then says, 

'Aap bhool gayi hain ki Sudama bhi logon ke aankhon mein gareeb vyakti the aur Bhagavaan Krishna raja hain, lekin isse unhe koi antar nahi pada aur unke beech sabse pavitr dosti hai.' 

'You seem to forget that Sudma was also poor person in people's eyes and Lord Krishna, is the king, but it didn't bother them and they have the purest friendship.'
