I don't think there were enough words to possibly describe the exhaustion I was feeling. Honestly speaking: It was a surprise that Nicholas even gave me the day of, especially a business day. So when I got his call to come around to the office, I wasn't really surprised. Pendejo.

Even better, he wanted to begin on the project as soon as possible. Though I would have been convinced that pigs were flying if he hadn't. For as long as I have known Nicholas, which is almost my whole 23 years, soon-to-be 24 years of existence, I do not think I have ever seen him not think about the next best thing.

And I guess maybe for a time, that is what I was to him. A project.

Even before I became his assistant, I remember how late he would arrive at the Manor when me and Chloé had our annual sleepovers.

"Jesus. You scared me," I released a breath when I saw him as I closed the fridge door. "Did you only just arrive ?"
"Yes. I had work to do. And speaking of..." he continued as he pulled out his laptop.

I was pulled out of my thoughts as the elevator dinged when I arrived on my apartment floor. I pushed myself off the elevator wall, making my way out , with my heels and purse in hand. Unlocking the door, I placed my purse on the kitchen table and my heels by the floor on a nearby chair.

Perhaps one could say I was dwelling on nostalgia, but when I opened the fridge, I grabbed a cart of cold cran/ rasberry juice. Maybe it was my moment of weakness that i almost had at the office, when I noticed almost a little too late of how close I had been standing next to him. Then, I called out my name. Like he used to, and that snapped me out of my haze and not a moment too soon.

Hoping to fall back asleep, I turned on the television and watched some cartoons. What can I say? They are one of my weak spots. As sleep began to overtake me, I was woken up by my ringtone. Groaning as I picked up my phone, I read the caller name.

'Ride or Die'
Translation: Chloé Vasilios

"This better be good if you are calling me at..." I paused as i checked the time. "11 p.m. I swear you Vasilios can never give me a break."
"Well, hello to you too. Rough day? "
"Well, let's see, I was supposed to be spending the day at Mama's for lunch, but your dear brother called me in before I even touched a single plate. So, instead of spending the day there, I had to cut it short after my meal. So yeah, rough day,"I just replied as I got up to pour myself with another glass of juice.

"Sorry. But back to my reason for calling. I wanted to invite you out for Girl's Night tomorrow evening," she exclaimed on the other side of the phone. I could hear the smoothie machine playing out loudly inches background. "Well, I'm not sure. I might have work. Knowing your brother, " I whispered that last part.
"I don't think he'll be a problem. A little birdie told me that dear Nico has been summoned to the Manor by Grandpa. So what do you say, Girl's Night?"

I thought about it for a moment, considering if it was even worth agreeing 'cause knowing Nicholas, he would find a way to keep me in that office. But after a few moments of hesitation, I thought 'Oh screw it.'
"Sure. Count me in. I could sure use a drink."
"Great, see you tomorrow. I'll send you the details. "
"Okay, cool. Goodnight, I love you."
"I love you. Kisses."

I made my way back to the couch, switching the TV off as I pulled out my laptop to read over some of the files I was going to work on the following day.
"Starting costs of ho-"

Beep. Beep. Beep. Beep. I groaned as I heard my phones alarm. I pressed the snooze button on my phone, which was placed next to the remote and empty glass on the glass coffee table, framed with gold plated metal. Dios, when did I fall asleep?
