Willow That Shines At Dawn finds herself and her best friend, Dandelion Like The Sun, exiled from their tribe in...
Willow squinted open her eyes, her ears painfully twitching as a crow cawed surprisingly close to her ears. She felt a harsh peck on her hind, and she yelped in shock and pain, and scrambled ungracefully to her paws, lasting only a heartbeat before buckling and rolling onto her side. the crows screeched, laughing, and flapped away, unfazed. Her fur smudged against half dried blood, which surrounded her in a circle, a tail length in radius. She moaned painfully, turning her head to look at her body. Her eyes widened in surprise and horror at her dismantled body.
I should be dead. she thought to herself, and she dropped her head limply onto the ground, scenting her own blood.
Why aren't I?.. She thought back to what happened.
Dandelion! She pulled herself up, clamping her jaw shut to stop herself from screeching in agony. She blinked as her back legs lay limply, and her front legs shook from bearing her weight.
How long have I been laying here? Where's Dandelion... then the dizziness hit. She dropped to the floor like a dead weight.
She was awake before she knew she was, pushing herself up on one paw. She looked in anguish at her right paw. It was twisted around, in a way that seemed locked in position. She turned to look at the state of her body. Covered in blood. Coated in it. Her left back leg was torn to shreds, but she could wiggle her toes.
Nothing broken there then. She turned her head the other way. Her right side of her body had bits of tissue and muscle hanging from her body, and parts of her pelt lay across the grass, flung from the sharptooth's claws. A claw was hanging loosely from a toe on her twisted paw. Must have caught on the root. She looked around for the root, and her back thigh brushed on a rock, and she screeched out in pain, spinning around, teeth bared, ready to fight for the life she nearly lost. She saw nothing, only a rock. She twisted her head around more, a huge, pink/red hole with blackened dried blood encrusted around the edges revealed itself. It was just there. She hadn't even noticed. What a mess. She cried inside. She looked around for the root and saw it about eight tail lengths away.
Must have been thrown around. She guessed. She struggled to her feet, barely, muffling her screeches with her teeth. The birds who were watching in amusement flew away, mimicking her cries. her legs wobbled drastically, and she managed to sit.
One bit at a time. Her stomach rumbled, and she felt hollow. She realised the sun was beginning to dip. She had been there for more then a day, she guessed. She looked over to her cold muscle and tissue left on the ground. She felt sick. But she knew there was only one way she was to stay alive. She needed to eat. And she was in no state to hunt. She dragged herself over to a small lump of limp, cold muscle. She didn't look at the clots of blood encrusting the edges. She fought the urge to vomit and set her teeth in it. Her own cold blood flooded her mouth, and her eyes watered as she chewed, and swallowed. She felt it slide into her empty stomach. She took another bite, realising just how hungry she was. After finishing one lump, she fought against her hunger to not eat another lump of body, and to save it for later, knowing she wouldn't be hunting anytime soon. She lay where she was, sighing. I will find you Dandelion. I promise you, wherever you are.
I will find you.
