Through the haze of pain and disorientation, she heard a faint voice calling her name.

''Willow.'' Her ears twitched, and her eyes opened barely. She closed her eyes again. She had accepted her fate. I'm sorry Wolfkit, I tried. She said to the small, unmoving bundle cuddled beside her, his face pressed into her belly, a vain attempt to shield himself from the storm. She could tell he was alive, by the telltale tiny shivering erupting from his pelt.

''Willow.'' The voice called again, slightly stronger. What? She opened her eyes again, only to be met by bitter winds. Leave me alone...

''Willow!'' The voice called, strongly with a sense of urgency. Her eyes darted open as she recognised the voice.

Dandelion? She asked desperately. Is it really you? The voice did not respond, instead, Dandelion only urged her again.

''Get up, Willow, you have to get up!'' His voice grew louder in her mind with each word, a desperate plea for her to rally. His voice cleared away the terrible ringing, and she felt blood flush through her veins, and she flexed her toes.

With a surge of determination, Willowpaw forced herself to her feet, the world spinning around her. Wolfkit yelped in surprise, then with pleasure, then again with fear.

''Come on Willow, you don't have much time! I believe in you, you can do this.'' Dandelion's voice urged her on.

Ahead, she saw a faint light shimmering through the trees, beckoning her onward. In a daze, she picked Wolkit up swiftly, and followed the light, miraculously avoiding the debris being flung about by the fierce winds.

Following his guidance, she staggered forward, her senses heightened by the adrenaline coursing through her veins. She searched desperately for him, chasing the tiny flickering light ahead, but never caught sight of his golden pelt. Finally, a giant mass of darkness loomed before her, and she stopped in her tracks. Snakerocks.

Dandelion's light had gone.

''Inside. Don't worry, you'll be safe here.'' Dandelion promised, urging her inside.

Willowpaw trusted him, and with a last burst of strength, she crawled inside, wrapping herself around Wolfkit as they huddled together, seeking refuge from the raging storm.

''Dandelion?'' she whispered hoarsely, but there was no answer. He was gone, his presence fading like a wisp of smoke in the wind, tearing her heart apart all over again.

Exhausted and battered, Willowpaw and Wolfkit collapsed into one another. Willowpaw succumbed to the embrace of sleep, the howling wind a mournful lullaby in the background.
