It had all been smooth sailing for a few weeks before a major event that we couldn't avoid, no matter what, came up.
The court date.
Vic, Mike, Alysha, Mrs. Fuentes, and I were all patiently waiting for the whole thing to be over with. It was obvious that the session would take long, but I was hoping it wouldn't take that long. I'm not a very patient person, and knowing that someone who means a lot to me is involved really kills me.
"They're starting," Vic whispered to me. I noticed he was fiddling with his fingers a bit, and I couldn't help but feel sorry for him and the rest of his family. There's no telling what this does to their family, and the verdict could be devastating.
Once everyone was somewhat settled, we were told to rise, and we went through all of the necessary steps. Vic's father was called to the stand and questioned, but it wasn't anything that interesting.
"Where were you on the night of January sixteenth, 2014?" The prosecutor asks, pacing back in forth in front of Mr. Fuentes' stand.
"I was with my family. We were having dinner when I got a phone call from my boss. He asked if I could come in for a last minute meeting. There wasn't anything that sounded off in his voice. He sounded fine, which was kind of odd because he usually sounded so condescending. Anyway, I went into the office, not really thinking anything would be off. When I went in, he had me run a bunch of errands. I was confused because I thought he wanted to have a meeting with me, but instead he just wanted me to be his servant, as always," Vic's father explains.
"Is that why you killed him? Is that why Marcus Bostwick is dead? Because you didn't want to do what your boss asked?" It took me a moment to process what was being said, but a few seconds later I realized what he said. Bostwick. Marcus Bostwick. My father. Vic's father killed my own.
"Kellin," Vic began, but I couldn't hear it. I couldn't hear him tell me he was sorry or anything, because he shouldn't be. Sure, I was upset that the person who took part in giving me life was killed by someone who was far more sophisticated and caring, but that didn't matter, because the pain of what he did to me far outweighed the pain of hearing of his death.
"Don't, it's fine. If anything, I'm glad to know. He was a shit father, and no matter what, there's nothing he or I could do that would make me want to forgive him," I snapped. I didn't know if it was the hormones, the emotions, or maybe even the denial, but I wasn't even considering being upset about my father's death. I should have been, but some sick part of me was still content as could be, completely indifferent with the entire situation.
"Kellin, you need to at least process this. He was your father, after all," Vic spoke carefully, probably taking note of my attitude.
"Vic, he didn't ever matter to me. I hadn't spoken to him in over a year. It's fine. If I could, I would – wait, that's perfect," I told him, formulating a plan in my mind that would surely sway the jury members.
"What?" Vic wondered, confused.
"I think I just came up with a plan that could keep your father from going to prison. We just have to get them to take a break and let us speak to the attorney and possibly your father, then everything should work out. I mean, the jury would probably have more pit on me anyway, considering the fact that I'm almost six months pregnant and this is my father we're talking about," I ranted, aware that it probably wasn't the best idea to talk about this in a court room.
I honestly didn't even pay attention for a lot of the time we were there. So much was running through my mind, and I was trying to think of a solution really quickly. Before I knew it, we were all being dismissed, and Vic and I were heading off to the attorney's office.

"You want to do what, now?" The attorney, Mrs. Jacobs wondered after I finished explaining my plan.
"I just think it's worth a shot. I know it isn't the best thing to do, and lying isn't a good choice, but it could essentially help him and us win the case. I need him to be set free, and I think the rest of the family can agree," I explained, clutching onto Vic's hand as we sat in front of Mrs. Jacobs' desk.
"I have to agree with Kellin. My father isn't fit for prison, and I know he should have thought before he did what he did, but Kellin's father was abusive and kind of deserved what happened. He and his wife kicked Kellin out of the house when he was a teenager and left him to fend for himself. If anything, this was just a form of karma," Vic spoke, sounding persuasive as ever.
"I'll see what I can do," Mrs. Jacobs sighed, removing her glasses and pinching the bridge of her nose.
"Thank you," Vic and I both said politely, standing and walking out of the building hand-in-hand.
We both walked back to the house in silence, each of us trying to process what went on today. I knew Vic was grateful to me for the plan I had made, as he had thanked me a thousand times, but I was starting to wonder if this wasn't the right thing to do.
"What's wrong, baby?" Vic asked when we both lied together in bed. I was sort of in a rut the whole way home, and even when we took a bath together, so I figured he would be able to notice.
"I feel guilty," I admitted, turning my face into his neck.
"Why so?" he wondered, lightly running a hand through my hair and down my back.
"I just feel like this isn't the right thing to do. Like, I know my father was terrible and stuff, but it feels like I'm lying. I don't know, maybe it's just because of the news from today," I told him, brushing it off a little. Today had been pretty eventful, so I wasn't going to jump to conclusions until I got my feelings settled down.
"Okay, well, just know that you can talk to me if you want to, and that I love you both," Vic muttered, bringing my face to his and kissing my lips softly.
"I love you too," I whispered shyly, a pink blush highlighting my cheeks.
"Get some sleep," Vic told me, and just like that, I was out like a light.

I love you all
Until tomorrow xx
