ONE MONTH LATER

I run a hand through my hair as the elevator takes me up. I look myself over quickly. I'm dressed quite nicely, in a blue sweater with a chick on and a pair of brown pants and white leather boots, I also have a bottle of wine tucked under my arm.

Earlier in the week, I had a meeting at Orlando's office and he asked me what my plans were for today. I've never celebrated Thanksgiving and when I told him that, he insisted that I come celebrate with them. Them being Elowyn's family. I said I would think about it and when I told her, she begged me to come.

So here I am. The elevator doors open to chatter and laughter. I wonder if it's too late to turn around, text Orlando and tell him something came up. I barely like spending the holidays with my family, let alone with a man I don't care for. The only reason I agreed to this was because Elowyn asked me.

I take my coat off and hang it by the door before walking further in, and looking at the large picture of Orlando and Elowyn. I always do that when I'm here and always think of how much I hate it. I much prefer the photograph of Elowyn and I that I have on my nightstand.

As I walk into the kitchen, I'm greeted by Orlando. He's wearing an ugly sweater and a pair of jeans. I shake his head as my eyes travel across the kitchen to where I find Elowyn preparing the vegetables for dinner and drinking a glass of prosecco. She sends me a soft, warm smile that melts my heart and I do the same.

"We weren't too sure if you were going to come. I'll introduce you to everyone." Orlando smiles.

He introduces me to Elowyn's mother, Kathy, who is just an older version of Elowyn. Her brother Jordan and his date, Anika. I've met Anika before, when I was fooling around with Sharon, so she obviously isn't too happy to see me. Elowyn's father is having his own get together at his home with his wife, their children and her family. He invited Elowyn and she confided in me that she didn't know what to do, she told me she felt guilty. I told her that she had no reason to be guilty and she eventually agreed with me.

I smile at Elowyn once again and greet her as if we weren't fucking yesterday afternoon. I place my bottle of wine down and she smiles wider upon noticing that I bought her favourite.

"Would you like something to drink?" Orlando asks.

"Please." I nod.

I've already had a few drinks back at my apartment while I was getting ready. I watch as he pours me a whiskey, making small talk with me as I try my best not to stare at his wife. I sit at the bar and chuckle softly to myself every time I lock eyes with Elowyn, causing a blush to rise on her cheeks. I don't blame her though, I'm sure I'm doing the exact same. She looks so beautiful wearing a white oversized knitted sweater, black tights and a tight black skirt. Her hair is curled and pulled into a half down half up look, being tied with a white bow.
