The next morning was different than other mornings. The sun seemed brighter, birds chirping louder than usual, and they seemed to be singing to just me. I tried to imagine it, I pictured them in the window seal singing me a morning song. The most beautiful song.
Beautiful...those beautiful eyes I saw yesterday. Could it have really been real and not just a dream? I have met so many people in the last 15 years dad has been doing this, but I never woke up thinking about them in the morning. And he only said 3 words to me, but those 3 words were still playing in my mind. Maybe it was real, because I couldn't dream up something like that on my best night. My imagination wasn't that great.
I rushed down stairs looking for any sign it was real. The remote was right where I remembered setting it at, but that wasn't enough proof. My cup was still upside down in the dish strainer, but I could have still dreamed up the Ross part of it. Than I remembered why he was here. I went into dads office.
He was already hard at work. He usually worked from in the morning, didn't leave until about noon, unless he called an early call time. He had stacks and stacks of papers on his desk, but that was normal as well. I sat in the chair that Ross would have sat in if last night wasn't a dream. Dad looked confused.
"Hi sweetie. You're up early, did I wake you this morning?"
"No," I said, "I woke up on my own. Don't worry." He only nodded and started writing and reading again. I needed to play this smooth. "So dad, what kind of project are you working on now?"
He smirked back, the same one that was passed down to me, but I can actually pull it off. "Oh, just working on a few music videos right now, nothing big."
Maybe last night wasn't a dream after all...
"Who for?" Way to play this cool, I thought to myself as I was now on my knees in the chair. I sat down right away, afraid I would turn the chair over. That would be smooth.
Dad only smirked again and turned back to his work. I saw I wasn't going to get anymore answers from him. I got up and left the room. I was sure dad hadn't eaten yet, there wasn't any dishes in the sink, so I decided to fry up some hash browns and eggs. That was dad's favorite breakfast. I don't like eggs, but he loves them. Soon I was singing and forgot about last night, but for only a few minutes.
I was so into cooking and singing, I didn't hear him come in. I heard someone ask for me, but this wasn't a voice I was familiar with, not until I turned around and saw him there. He was tall, taller than Ross for sure. What was with these kids? Was this one even a kid?
"You're dad said I could come in here for something to drink?" Yeah, it really was him. He had the same blonde touch to his hair as Ross, just shorter. And half spiked. He also had the same welcoming eyes and gorgeous smile.
I had to snap out of this. "Yeah, sure. Let me get you a glass." I reached a cup from the China cabinet and handed it to Riker, who was now about to break out in laughter. Oh yeah, I definitely made a slight fool of myself, but I didn't care.
