I see it in the corner. The look of it, and the dust on it, it looked like it hadn't been picked up in months. I pick it up, and start wiping the dust off. It was beautiful. Why didn't it get played? It's beautiful red polish needed shined again, but I could still see its beauty. I set the guitar across my leg, and pick the guitar pick up from the table. I strum the strings quietly trying not to disturb Rydel. It needed tuned again for sure, but it still had a country sound. I was so busy admiring it, I didn't even notice Ross had come into the garage.
"That's my first guitar." He says as he sits next to me.
"Oh, I'm sorry. I just saw it. Not even sure I would even know how to play anymore." I go to set it back on the stand, but he stops me. He takes it and starts to tune it. I watch him. His fingers worked in speed, he was good at the tuning I could tell. After he had it tuned, only taking ten minutes tops, he hands it back to me.
I admire it one more time. Tuned it was even more of a beauty. I look to see if anyone else is around. He notices what I'm doing, and gets up and locks the garage door. He comes and sits back next to me. I start with a strum, and it all comes back to me. My fingers start working their magic, and soon I playing music I haven't played in years. Ross leans back and watches. I could tell I surprised him.
I noticed something else too. I wasn't scared to play in front of him. Either it's the commitment I saw today, or the cameras and interviews helped in a way I didn't realize. But I was playing full length songs in front of Ross and singing too. I was happy, maybe that was it. I hadn't played in almost three years since my guitar fell down our steps. If felt great. My fingers just moved up and down the neck, and my right hand was strumming away. I loved the feeling of playing again.
I smiled at Ross, and started strumming a familiar tune. I wanted to do this one, but wanted to get the feel of it again before I did. When he recognized what it was, he sat up. When vocals came to cue, he started to sing. Me made a great tune. When I would hit the harder picking notes, he would smile when I hit them every time. When I finished the last chord, he smiled a bright smile. I smiled back at him. I looked back at the beauty on my lap and rubbed my hand across it again. I really missed playing.
"That's impressive. Anything else I need to know about you?" He smiles at me leaning in. "I learn more and more about you every day." I lean in and kiss his lips. I set the guitar back on the stand and lay against Ross. He starts stroking my hair, and I loved it. Something had changed today. I was more confident that I wouldn't lose him. He did love me and I loved him more every minute I spent with him.
It was silent for a few minutes besides the loud echo booming of the video game inside. I just laid against him. Even in silence, every second with him was precious. I smiled and snuggled tight against him. Today had been perfect, every second of it. I had spent the morning with Rydel, and had an amazing time at the concert this afternoon. The camera issue seemed like a week ago now. When I was with him, it seemed like old news. The after party was sort of a blur. There were so many people in one house I could only dream of meeting, and a few people from the concert I recognized from sitting around us.
I reached back in my pocket and pulled my phone out. I went to the gallery and started scrolling through the pictures. There were a bunch of pictures of me and other people that Ross had taken. They were nice, but not what I wanted to see. I kept scrolling to the earlier pictures from earlier in the party before I was tired. There was a lot of me and Ross. I picked my favorite. It was a distance shot taken by Riker, and Ross was standing behind me with his arms around my waist. I had my arms up behind me around his neck. He had his cheep against mine. It was a beautiful picture. I shared it adding the comment:
"Had an amazing day with this guy. My most exciting day yet. So full of excitement, and slowing down."
I tag him and add to Twitter. I share that picture, than click on the camera. I snap a picture of him, him and all his beautifulness, and I add the captain:
"Thanks for the amazing day. I add lots of fun. I love you."
Tagging him, and sharing, I look at Ross next to me. He's smiling and takes a picture of us together. He adds the captain:
"Very glad you had fun today. Promise is a promise. I love you Sweetheart. I'm sorry for this afternoon, I'll make that up to you."
He shows it to me. I roll my eyes and take out the last sentence and hand it back to him. He smiles, hits share, and putting his phone to the side, he puts his hand on my face stroking my cheek with his thumb. He leans his head to one side and kisses me so passionately, I can feel my heart start to race. I shift myself onto his lap. I lock my fingers in his hair, and puts his no free arm, laying his hand on my waist. He kisses with force this time. Too soon, he pulls his hand from my waist to my other cheek, pushing my off his lips.
I try to fight him until he reminds me what room we are in. I frown and lay my forehead against the side of his neck. My fingers stay locked.
