My days was fun. Between video games, listening to music, watching his shows, a few one on one 5 minute conversations and many prank calls later I felt like I knew Ryland as if I met him first. He was really cool, and super fun to be around. And he is a major tech freak. Guess he has to be though.
When the day was coming to an end, it started to get quiet. We couldn't play music anymore, really didn't want to annoy the neighbors. So everyone, besides me of course, given I was no good at them, played videos games. I just snuggled up close to Ross when he wasn't playing, and when he was I was usually joking around with Riker or Ryland. Rydel and Ellington were close and snuggling. Rocky had his acoustic playing in the dining room. He really was all about the music.
Given the opportunity, I went into the dining room. Nobody noticed me leave, they were all busy talking or playing. When I walked in, he looked up at me and nodded, but didn't stop playing. I just listened. It didn't take long for me to learn what he was singing, I usually pick up on music really fast. Soon I found myself singing along. I didn't notice he had stopped singing and was watching me while he played.
I was lost in my own world. When he stopped playing, I sat back up from where I was laying back in the chair. He was smiling. "Wow, you're really good." My cheeks suddenly felt very hot. I was hoping nobody else heard, even Ross. I didn't want a musical connection to the group.
"I guess I wasn't paying attention, and started singing louder." I looked down and pushed my chair back. "I'm sorry."
He stood up really quick. "Don't be. I could actually use help. It's hard to write and sing at the same time. Could you help me?" He flashed a huge smile.
I sat back down, and he mocked my action. "Okay, just once." His smile grew and he came and sat next to me with the paper. "I don't need that. Just play Rocker." He laughed, and picked his pick from between his lips and started playing. I started singing when he gave me the cue.
It really was a beautiful song. It was about love. My favorite. I offered my input, and some were considered, played and changed. By the time we were done, it took almost 2 hours. In the other room everyone was still playing video games. I'm sure they noticed me gone, but nobody was worried. I knew my way around.
He wanted to sing through the final changes, and he started playing. I started to sing in my spot. Music was my safe place. When I lost mom, music became my haven, and always made me feel better. That's why I loved it so much. I just sang, and I enjoyed it. When the last line came to cue, I finished it soft, new touch in the last minute. When it was over, I was happy. I did have a connection to Rocky all along, just didn't notice it.
Before either of us could say anything, Ross came and sat next to me at the table. I didn't know he was there. When I turned around, there was everyone. I suddenly felt like I was going to pass out. The room started to spin. One person I could deal with, two was okay, but the whole family? And to top it off, a whole family bonded my musical talent?
"Um, how long were you there?" I ask Ross turning my head around to look at him. A tear escaped my eye, I was embarrassed. Ross could tell, and he turned to everyone else and asked them to leave for a minute. Rocky wouldn't budge, nor would Rydel. She came and sat down next to Ross. I just wanted to melt.
"That was amazing. You shouldn't be embarrassed." He assured me, pulling me into his lap. Rydel took my seat when it became vacant.
I looked at him, "it's just that you guys are really good, and you have eachother. I'm not as good, my shower head hears me, but she doesn't judge."
Ross laughs. "First off, your shower head is a she?" He lets out one more laugh until I smile. "Second off, you really are amazing. And you aren't alone."
"Yeah, you really are good. Trust me. And I agree with Ross. As I know Rocky does?" Rydel points in Rocky's direction, and he nods. "And I know everyone else thought so too. You are harboring a major talent."
Great, I wasn't dreaming. Everybody saw it. "It's just, music has a special meaning to me. And it's usually something I do only a certain times. Not often." I looked at Ross. "Before my mother died, she used to sing to me. Now when I miss her, I listen to music."
"Were you missing her when you came in here?" Rocky asked before I could say anything else.
"Well, no. I just came in here to hear the song. Not sing. It just sorta happened." I look back at Ross. "I didn't want anyone to hear me sing."
Ross looked disappointed, and a little sad too. "Okay. I understand. But I just wanna tell you you were amazing."
I tuck into his chest. He sighs and I know I disappointed him somehow. Than he nods no to either Rocky or Rydel. I didn't look up to see who it was. Didn't want to know actually.
After a short amount of time after going back to the living room, I fall asleep in his arms again. I didn't say anything else the rest of the night.
