Chapter 9: Rebel in the Rhythm

After Luke's departure, a sense of liberation, albeit tinged with an undercurrent of guilt, coursed through me. I found my way back into the pulsating heart of the nightclub, the music and drinks luring me into a temporary oblivion. There was no sign of Sebastian since our arrival, but at that moment, I didn't care. The rhythm of the music and the buzz of the drinks made me feel alive, unburdened by the tangled web of lost memories. I felt free, unchained.

Lost in the intoxicating beats, I surrendered to the dance floor's seductive embrace. Alone amidst a sea of bodies, I danced, letting the music dictate my movements. It was a blissful escape; I was determined to revel in it, to lose myself in the anonymity of the pulsating crowd.

The rhythm of the music wrapped around me, inviting me to forget the muddled reality of my fractured memories. I was free, unshackled from the haunting whispers of a past I couldn't recall.

That's when a strikingly attractive guy approached me, asking if he could join. "Sure, why not," I said, welcoming the distraction.

As we danced, the guy was undeniably hot, though he paled in comparison to Luke and Sebastian. Initially, our dance was innocent enough, but then his hands began to wander, pulling me closer against him.

A part of me knew I shouldn't be dancing this way with someone who wasn't Luke. But Emily, the one without memories, just wanted to lose herself in the moment. I was tired of being constantly compared to the old Emily, who, to be honest, sounded like she led a monotonous life. Even though she and I were technically the same person, at that moment, I felt entirely different, entirely new.

Our dance grew more intimate, more daring, when suddenly Sebastian appeared, his face a mask of cold fury. As he approached, I knew he was here to play the protective brother-in-law. "Move away from her before I rearrange your face," he growled at the guy I was with.

The guy, confused and defensive, shot back, The guy, taken aback, shot back defiantly, "Who the hell are you to tell me off? She's here to dance, isn't she?"." I turned to Sebastian, annoyance flaring within me.

I snapped at Sebastian, irritation flaring. "Back off, Sebastian! I'm not your damn responsibility. I'm just trying to have a bit of fun!"

Sebastian, ignoring my protest, shoved the guy away, his hand clamping around his neck, his other fist raised, ready to strike. Not wanting another violent confrontation, I intervened, "Okay, okay, please don't. I'll stop dancing with him. I just can't handle another fight tonight, please."

The intensity in Sebastian's eyes lingered, a storm of protectiveness and frustration that didn't fade even as he released the man. The confrontation had sent a clear message. The guy, more bewildered than hurt, vanished into the anonymity of the crowd. My heart was pounding, a chaotic mix of adrenaline and vexation coursing through me.

Sebastian turned to me, a storm brewing in his eyes. He grabbed my hand, pulling me off the dance floor to our booth, his demeanor clouded with anger. "What the fuck, Emily? What was that about?"

I retorted, annoyed lacing my voice. "What does it look like? I was trying to have fun until you decided to play the knight in shining armor!"

His response was a heated snap. "Emily, you're fucking married to my brother, remember?"

My irritation flared up, igniting a fiery response. "No, I don't fucking remember that! I don't remember anything about this Emily you and Luke keep talking about! You guys need to stop worrying about me! I heard you talking about how the injury changed my personality. Well, guess what? This is me now. The old Emily is gone, and I'm sick of being compared to someone I have no fucking clue about!"
