Chapter 10: Dance of Defiance

Frustrated and determined to seize control of my evening, I strode back to the dance floor. Sebastian trailed behind, his presence a looming shadow over my freedom. Every time a guy tried to approach me, a single glare from Sebastian sent them scurrying away. My frustration boiled over – I had sent Luke away to enjoy my night, yet here I was, with Sebastian playing the overbearing guardian.

Confronting Sebastian, I laid down my terms. "Since you won't let me dance with anyone and I want to have fun, you're going to dance with me. I can't take it anymore, losing my mind more if you guys keep reminding me of who I used to be and not letting me live now."

Sebastian's discomfort was palpable, a visible struggle etched across his features as he grappled with my demand and his own conflicting emotions. I could see a hint of sorrow in his eyes, an empathy for the frustration and confusion that were tearing me apart.

After a moment of hesitation, he began, "Emily, I..." but his words trailed off into silence. His expression was a mix of confusion and concern, clearly torn on how to respond. Without waiting for him to decide, I reached out, grabbing his hand and pulling him closer to me.

Initially, Sebastian stood rigid, like a man caught between duty and desire. My plea broke through his resistance. "Please, Sebastian, I just want to have fun tonight and forget all my problems," I implored, my voice tinged with desperation.

Something in my words seemed to reach him. He looked into my eyes, a storm of conflicting emotions swirling within. Finally, he began to move, his body finding the rhythm of the music. As I turned, pressing my back against him, there was a momentary stiffness in his movements. But as I danced more intimately, I felt him relax, maybe too much. I could sense the change in his body, a physical response he couldn't control.

In my intoxicated state, I was driven by a need to feel something, anything, other than the emptiness and confusion. I pressed closer, my movements bold and unrestrained. My arms reached up to encircle his neck, our bodies moving together in a dance that was as much about defiance as it was about escape.

But then, abruptly, Sebastian stopped. "Emily, I can't. We can't dance like this," he uttered, a tremor in his voice.
