Chapter 33: Desperate Farewell

In the midst of this chaos, I noticed Sebastian's arms moving frantically at his sides. He was working on something - a plan, a desperate attempt to free himself. It dawned on me that he had managed to grab a knife during the earlier scuffle when the men were punching him.

Tears streamed down my face as I watched Sebastian, a mix of fear and hope battling within me. Then, in a swift, almost blur-like motion, Sebastian broke free. He lunged at the men with a ferocity that was terrifying. The first man fell before I could even process what had happened. Within seconds, Sebastian had incapacitated the second man. The room fell into a stunned silence, broken only by the sound of heavy breathing and soft groans.

Sebastian, now wielding a gun he had taken from one of the fallen men, turned his attention to Louis. But before he could act, Louis grabbed me, his gun pressed against my temple. "If you shoot, she dies," Louis snarled, his eyes wild with fear and rage.

In the tense standoff, Louis tried to negotiate, his voice laced with deceit. "Put the gun down, and I'll let her go," he said to Sebastian, his gun still pressed against me. I urged Sebastian to find a way to escape and to go find Luke, but Sebastian, weighing the immediate danger, complied with Louis's demand. He placed the gun on the floor, a calculated risk to ensure my safety.

In a swift, treacherous move, as soon as Sebastian's weapon hit the ground, Louis released me but simultaneously shot Sebastian in the shoulder. The sound of the gunshot echoed in the room, and I screamed in horror. Sebastian, though wounded, reacted with incredible speed. He pulled me behind a couch for cover and quickly retrieved his gun. In one fluid motion, he shot Louis in the chest and legs. Louis crumpled to the floor, howling in pain.

Despite his injury, Sebastian's actions were decisive. He ripped Louis's bulletproof vest off and strapped it onto me, his movements fueled by adrenaline. He then barricaded the entrance door with furniture to delay Louis's men from entering.

Sebastian was bleeding profusely from the gunshot wounds in his shoulder, but he didn't allow his pain to slow him down. He kept fortifying the door, buying us precious time.

He turned to me, his face etched with urgency and pain. "His guys will break through that door any minute now. Take this gun," he handed me a weapon, his voice firm despite the pain. "There's a hidden door behind that bookshelf – it leads to an underground passage. Push the book, the door will open. I'll hold them off as long as I can to give you enough time to escape."

I looked into his eyes, seeing a depth of emotion I'd never witnessed before. The realization that this might be our final moment together was crushing. "I can't leave you, Sebastian," I whispered, my voice trembling.

Sebastian's words were hard to digest; I didn't want to accept that this was our reality. "Please, Emily, don't resist me on this," he implored. "I have to stay behind to ensure you have a chance. I'll use Louis as leverage to gain you some precious time." His voice held a mixture of determination and resignation, as if he had always been prepared for this inevitable fate.

Tears welled up in my eyes, blurring my vision as I gazed deeply into his soulful eyes. In that profound moment, I saw the intricate tapestry of his emotions—love and agony intricately woven into the depths of his gaze.

"I can't bear to leave you, Sebastian," I whispered, my voice trembling with the weight of my heartache.

His hand, gentle as a whisper, cupped my cheek, offering a bittersweet solace. "You must, Emily," he urged, his voice a soft plea. Then, vulnerability cracked through his facade.

"Falling for you wasn't part of the plan," he confessed, each word laced with a mixture of wonder and regret. "But I couldn't stop myself. I love you, Emily. Please, do this for me. If you die, I'm already dead. Please, for both of us, go." Tears cascaded down his face, laying bare his raw vulnerability in this heart-wrenching moment.

He implored me once more, "Please, Emily" And then he kissed me, our lips met—a farewell kiss, It was a parting kiss that etched itself into the depths of my soul, a mark I knew would remain forever.

Even through my tears, I watched as Sebastian gently wiped them away. "Don't shed tears for me," he urged, his voice a seductive whisper, like the softest caress against my skin.

"I always knew my path would lead to this end. I was born into a world of violence, and it's the only way I know how to exit it. But every second I spent with you was the happiest time of my entire life."

He paused, his eyes filled with a longing that mirrored my own, a wistful smile playing at the corners of his lips. "Even watching those romance movies I claimed to hate, everything felt better with you by my side. You could give me acid to drink, and it would taste good because of you."

With one final, lingering kiss, turning away, my heart heavy with sorrow, I pushed the button, and the door to the underground passage creaked open. I glanced back at Sebastian, my eyes meeting his for the last time. "I will always remember you. You will forever be in my heart," I said, my voice barely above a whisper.

A single tear rolled down his cheek, a silent goodbye. With a heavy heart, I stepped into the passage, the door closing behind me with a finality that resonated through my very being. The sound of gunshots erupted outside, each one sending a jolt of fear through me. I flinched with every shot, praying that Sebastian would somehow survive this ordeal.

As I hurried down the dimly lit underground corridor, every step was a battle between hope and fear. The cold, damp air clung to my skin, a stark reminder of the perilous situation I was in. My mind raced, thoughts of Sebastian, our final moments together, and the uncertain future I was now facing.

The passage was narrow, the air thick with the musk of earth and forgotten secrets. My footsteps echoed hollowly as I ran, the weight of Sebastian's sacrifice fueling my desperate need to escape. The walls felt like they were closing in on me, a tangible reminder of the peril I was leaving behind and the uncertainty that lay ahead.

But as I emerged at the end of the tunnel, my heart racing with a mix of fear and anticipation, I was confronted with a sight that stopped me dead in my tracks. Three figures stood at the end of the hallway, their presence foreboding, casting long shadows in the dim light. Their stance was ominous, and a cold realization washed over me – this could very well be the end of my journey too.
