Chapter 31: Into the Lion's Den
Sebastian's response was terse. "I know what I'm walking into, Alejandro. No need to remind me."
Alejandro's eyes narrowed. "Then why the hell are you here? " He pressed.
Sebastian cut straight to the chase. "Forget that. I need your help, Alejandro. Where might the devil's location be?" he asked, referring to his father.
Alejandro's reaction was one of shock. "You're not just on a death wish; you're literally begging for a bullet."
Sebastian's frustration was palpable as he demanded, "Just give me the damn location, Alejandro. And I need to borrow your boat, you owe me that much." His tone was harsh, a clear indication of the urgency of our situation.
Alejandro let out a laugh, one that held no real humor. "I always knew this day would come, didn't I? But don't say I didn't warn you." He grabbed a map and pointed to a specific location. "It's right there. But let me tell you, walking into that place is a death sentence. And you're planning to take her?" He gestured towards me, his expression a mix of disbelief and concern.
Sebastian replied, "Believe me, she won't take no for an answer," before turning to me with a serious look. "Emily, I need you to stay with Alejandro. I have to get Luke, but it's crucial that you stay safe, and you'll be safe here with him."
I shook my head, already knowing my response. "Sebastian, you know I won't agree to that. I'm not wasting time arguing about this; I'm coming with you."
Alejandro looked at me, a spark of admiration in his eyes. "I like her spirit," he said with a devilish smirk. "But sweetheart, you'd be better off staying here. Sebastian's got a death wish, showing up like this. And it's a shame for a beautiful girl like you to get caught up in this mess. I can protect you in many ways," he added, his smirk widening.
Sebastian's patience snapped. "Alejandro, back off. Stop hitting on her. She's not interested in you. One more flirtatious comment from you, and I'll put a bullet in your head," he warned, his voice cold and deadly.
Alejandro's demeanor shifted from seriousness to a more relaxed stance, but his eyes still held a trace of concern. He let out a half-hearted laugh. "Jesus, Sebastian, lighten up a bit, will you? Same old asshole, even after all these years," he said, his laughter tinged with a hint of nostalgia and underlying tension.
I faced Alejandro squarely, my resolve unshaken. "Thanks for the offer, Alejandro, but I'll pass. I'm capable of handling myself and I'm sticking with Sebastian, no matter what dangers we might face."
Realizing his attempts at dissuasion were in vain, Alejandro gave a resigned shrug. "Alright then, looks like you're both hell-bent on this. You've got a death wish too, huh?" He then handed Sebastian the key with a somber look. "Take care of my Sea Ray, okay? She's my pride and joy."
Sebastian accepted the key with a mischievous grin. "Your 'baby' might not be in prime condition when she gets back. You're loaded enough to handle that, aren't you?"
Alejandro mockingly grimaced. "Damn, Sebastian. Planning to wreck my favorite toy? That's cold, man."
Sebastian's response was lighthearted, yet firm. "Remember, you owe me big time. This is just the tip of the iceberg."
Laughing, Alejandro nodded. "I know, I know. That's why I've prepared a little something extra for you inside. After that, we're square."
With a casual wave, Sebastian gestured for me to follow him. We left the bar, stepping back into the sunlit streets, leaving behind the dimly lit interior. The city outside was a stark contrast to the shady dealings of the bar, yet it carried its own set of dangers.
