I had such an early night yet somehow I was still feeling tired this morning, and don't get me wrong most days I push away the tiredness but this morning I simply couldn't be asked. And it's not like I didn't try cause I got up to pee and brush my teeth at some point, but then I was still sleepy so I said fuck it and went back to sleep.
My light flicks on and I groan as I lift the comforter over my head, "Mari it's almost eight. Why you still asleep?"
"Cause", I mumble from underneath
"Cause what?", Mom asks
"I don't wanna go to school"
"Don't we all. But look I got a surprise for you"
"Is it food"
"Why don't you have a look"
I lower the comforter from my face to see what my so called surprise is, it's Xavier. He looks handsome, but I don't break easily. I lift the comforter back over my face, "Pick better surprises mama" I re close my eyes
"Wait a minute are ya'll beefin?"
"Yes we are so please escort him out of my room"
"Come on Ree"
"You know the real reason she don't wanna go to school is cause she's waiting for you to make things right with her right?-
"I can hear you"
"Can you uncover your face so we can talk?", Xavier asks
"No thank you"

"Alright alright I'm gone", I hear the door shut behind her and Xavier pulls the comforter away from my face slightly
"Babe come on" He says softly
I fold my arms, "What would you like"
"To talk"
"Talk then"
"Look I get why you were mad now ok? But I was pissed and I still am, Indiah's now hung up on that white boy and he's a piece of shit-
"Do you think I don't know that?"
"I know you do"
"It did not need to go that far"

"I literally just got Archie's friend to help me with your files and now you guys might've jeopardised that, had you let me handle it I would've had a go at him because guess what he pissed me off too. And after that I still would've been able to get him to tell the cops that he was Indi's dealer. But because dumb dumber and dumbest took it upon themselves you've got no way to get the cops off her case, and you know what happens when the cops are on one persons case? They start coming up with theories and then they start digging and digging until they've found something. Might not relate to the case but guess what they don't give a fuck"
He smiles a little
"What the fuck is funny"
"No it's just that you're cute when you're mad-

"You are though", He then holds my hands
"I'm sorry mama. I didn't think that deep into it, I should've listened to you"
