AUDITION DAY
Today marked a significant turning point for Elara – January 15th, the day she had thoroughly prepared for over the last two weeks. Confidence, not arrogance, coursed through her; she had an unwavering belief that the role was hers. It was as if the universe had aligned this opportunity just for her.
Almost at the destination, Elara gave herself a final check using her phone's camera. Opting for a bold makeup look, she had struck the perfect balance – distinctive yet not overpowering, ensuring her eyes were the focal point. She felt radiant and undeniably confident, a sentiment echoed in her reflection. A quick touch-up of her lipstick, a dab of Vaseline, and a spritz of mint spray were her final touches.
Her Uber pulled up to the destination, Stepping out of the vehicle, Elara was filled with a sense of destiny. This building was more than just a location; it represented a gateway to a new chapter in her life. She was about to enter as Elara and emerge transformed as Aria Blackwell.
Navigating through a sea of new faces and introductions, Elara was eventually guided to an intimate dimly lit audition room – the place where her future awaited.
Elara stands center, script in hand, embodying Aria Blackwell. A panel of the casting directors, including Emerald Fennell were seated behind a long table, watching attentively. A few cameras placed throughout the room were also recording.
Elara, embodying Aria Blackwell, sits at a small table facing an empty chair, imagining Oliver sitting there. The tension is palpable as she prepares to deliver the important crucial reveal scene.
Elara/Aria (with a knowing smile): "You thought you were watching me, didn't you, Oliver? Watching and waiting, playing the silent, calculating observer. But who watches the watcher?"
Elara leans forward, tilting her head slight- her gaze intense and piercing.
Elara/Aria: "Let me tell you a story, Oliver. A story where the unsuspecting girl you thought you were using was orchestrating every move.
(Leaning in) "I always knew, Oliver... About your little peep show during my nights with Felix. You thought you were so clever, hiding in the shadows. But did you know I left the door ajar on purpose, those nights with Felix? Well my dear it was A show, just for you"
Her voice is a blend of mockery and revelation.
Elara/Aria: "You see, I always knew about your background, your fictional family tragedy. I did my homework, unlike you. And while you were busy trying to get your hands on the Catton Estate, I was playing a much deeper game."
Elara's demeanor shifts to one of cold calculation.
Elara/Aria: "Making Felix's mother believe in a love story, a fairy tale ending with a wedding... was child's play. And when tragedy struck, who was secretly there to comfort the grieving widow throughout the years? Me. I earned my place in that will, Oliver. You know playing the grieving fiancée was so tiring, listening to this dreadful widow moan about little irrelevant things."
She leans back, a look of triumph on her face.
Elara/Aria: "And now, here we are in this cafe. Me, with a stake in the estate and you about to meet her for the first time in years, ready to begin your short journey on getting a stake too. But let's not kid ourselves – we are not partners, Oliver. You were just a means to an end. A puppet in my play. You should've known better than to underestimated me. I'm not just a lousy side piece in your game, Oliver I am the fucking game."
Elara's expression hardens.
Elara/Aria (conclusively whispered in a teasing tone): "In this twisted game, you thought you were a player. But all along, you were just another piece on my chessboard. And now, I say 'checkmate'."
Elara finishes the monologue with a sense of finality, capturing Aria's cunning, manipulative nature. She sits back, her performance resonating in the silence of the audition room. The casting directors, especially Emerald Fennell, exchange impressed glances, recognizing the depth and intensity Elara has brought to Aria Blackwell.
Emerald Fennell knew Elara was Aria Blackwell and she thanked the heavens for that evening, where she walked into the living room and caught her son watching Shadow and Bone.
Now Emerald just prayed that Elara and Jacob would have chemistry between them.
AN: I don't even know how auditions go tbh, I just free-styled this. 😭it's 5am time for me to get my ass asleep. Also I was trying to word this in a less cringey way, and I know for auditions they wouldn't make you act such an important scene especially as this is one of the ending scenes, but I did it anyways and my excuse will be that Emerald knew Elara would be playing Aria - no matter the circumstances.
