I glanced at my wrist watch and rolled my eyes, it was still early, I needed to suffer and spend my 2 hours with these old fashioned elders
Fvck! I am bored as hell! Well it was a tradition for the Dela Cerna family to eat together every January 27th, that's my grandma's request before she dies
My boredom and irritation suddenly replaced happiness when I saw a text message from Yra
I shook my head.
She never failed to make me happy tsk!
I replied to her before taking a sip of red wine before putting the glass back to the table
"You're old enough Drake my dear grandson, you should secure your future and marry an educated woman" my grandpa said while cutting his steak
I secretly rolled my eyes, here we go again!
"Yes I agree, by the way how's your studies?" dad suddenly asked
"nothing to worry dad, I still manage to be on top I guess?" I answered instantly
I tried to sound more confident but there was that hint of unsureness that tainted my voice
Dad's brows furrowed, not satisfied with my answer
"You guess so huh? trying your best is not enough! you'll be the next heir of Dela Cerna, forget that I am your father if you fail your studies!"He said angrily,mocking me
"Drew! don't pressure our son" mom said
"Im - I'm trying my best not to fail you dad" I answered back trying to stop myself from stuttering
I lowered my head and clenched my fist
i'm tired of giving my best and it's still not enough
"Drake! Stop playing your food! are you that bored?? minsan na nga lang tayong makumpleto ganyan kapa?at least show a little bit more respect towards us!" Dad said, mahihimigan mo ang inis sa boses nya
Napapahiya ko namang binitawan ang tinidor, I tried to search for an excuse but I can't even utter a word
"I ...I just don't like the food?" I answered bravely trying to act cool
I raised my hand to call a waiter para naman makapanipaniwala ang naturan kong excuse
A familiar guy walked towards our table, dressed in a crisp black and white uniform, he moved with grace effortlessly balancing a tantalizing dishes. The glint in his eyes suggested he could save more than just delectable meals
He smiled at me, kahit wala ako sa mood ay napilitan akong ngitian sya pabalik
"May I get your order sir?" He asked
"Uhmm" nag aalangan pa akong sumagot dahil sa totoo lang ay wala talaga akong ganang kumain, I looked at him, he's still waiting patiently with a smile plastered on his lips
Yra suddenly crossed my mind and I automatically smiled.
"Pancakes with maple syrup" sagot ko, tinanguan nya lamang ako saka tumalikod, pinagmasdan ko ang papalayo nyang bulto, he suddenly stopped walking and gave me a reassuring smile, kumunot naman ang noo ko dahil doon
While I was waiting for my food, Ashton accidentally spilled maple syrup on my nice suit. Shit!What a bad luck!
The amber liquid cascaded onto my expensive suit, turning the moment into a sticky disaster.
My suit was all sticky. I panicked and urgently searched for tissues. I quickly grabbed a bunch, determined to clean up the unexpected mess on my clothes.
In the maple syrup mess, Ashton looked at me nervously, saying sorry with his eyes. Instead of getting mad, I laughed and patted him on the shoulder. "It's okay, just be more careful next time," I told him, turning the awkward moment into a light-hearted one.
Feeling the stickiness in my suit, I smiled politely and excused myself. My grandpa and dad didn't notice, so I looked at my mom, and she nodded. I went to the restroom to fix my suit, armed with a bunch of tissues.
Tinitigan ko ang sarili ko sa salamin ng restroom at bigla nalang akong natawa

Habang tinititigan ko ang sarili ko't pilit na inaalis ang malagkit na syrup saaking damit ay napansin kong bumukas ang pinto, mula sa salamin ay kita ko kung sino ang pumasok
Ashton is holding a pair of clothes at nakayukong iniabot ito saakin
"Sorry" he apologized in a low tone, nanatili paring nakayuko
I suddenly become irritated, I hate it when someone apologized to me without looking at me in my eyes, it feels like it's not sincere
How about Yra??she never apologized to you
Well! Yra is exemption.
Humarap ako sa kanya and I gently held his chin, guiding his gaze to meet mine.
"Say it again! It feels like you're not sincere" I said
He forced a smile at kamot batok nyang iangat ang mukha nya
"Sorry pre ah?" he paused for a moment, nag aalangan sa kung anong sasabihin "naletse na! mukhang malilintikan nanaman ako neto" bulong nya ngunit malinaw ko parin itong naririnig, ayun nga lang hindi ko alam ang ibig nitong sabihin
"Pero sa totoo lang pre sinadya ko talaga yun e hehe! Mukha ka kasing tensyonado kanina e, siguro ginigisa ka??" Aniya, nawala na ang awkwardness at napalitan ito ng pabirong expression
I gave him a confused look.
"ginigisa?" I asked confusedly.
Ang alam kong ginigisa ay pagkain
Tumango tango sya at mukhang nakuha nya ang ibig kong sabihin
Lihim syang napamura
"Shet ano bang English nung ginigisa?" Bulong nya sa sarili, at kamot kamot ang batok
Ilang beses na kaming nagkasama ngunit there's still an awkwardness between us, siguro we're not that close? I'm not good at socializing unlike him, he has a friendly vibe
"Nevermind, thanks for this Ashton" I said at sumenyas na magbibihis na, again, he smiled at me at patted my shoulder
"I got you maprend!" he said at tuluyan nang umalis
I shooked my head and removed my sticky clothes
I started wearing the clothes, I'm not used to it because I used to wear branded clothes not a cheap one but it smells good.
The unfamiliar comfort and the faint scent left me pondering the unexpected allure of simplicity.
