Investigating an apparent distress call, Voyager becomes trapped inside the event horizon of a quantum singularity

Lieutenant Carey sits up from the biobed, blood streaming from his nose. Amanda is standing beside Chakotay and Tuvok, she looks annoyed. "She's not just out of control, she's out of her mind." said Carey "if you will explain what happened, Lieutenant." said Tuvok "she hit me is what happened!" snapped Carey.

Amanda rolled her eyes "cause that's says it all" she remarks sarcastically, Tuvok and Chakotay side eye her frowning. "Your nose is broken in three places. I'll need to reset the ethmoid fossa. Try not to move." said the Doctor pushing Carey down on the bed, who sat up once the Doctor had walked off to get something. "We were having a disagreement about the power grid. She wanted to realign the lateral plasma conduit. I told her that would cause an overload. As usual, she wouldn't listen. So I told her to step aside and let me handle it. She pushed me away from the console. I pushed back. Next thing I knew, I was lying on the deck with blood pouring down my face." said Carey.

Amanda snorted slightly, Carey tried to frown at her but failed, Tuvok looked at Amanda blankly. "Then what happened?" Amanda asked "she said, 'Sorry. Maybe you should go to Sickbay.'" snapped Carey when the Doctor came over again "At least she gave you some good advice. Now" said the Doctor. "Ow!" Carey said as the Doctor pushed him back on his back to treat him. "Hold still." said the Doctor "don't worry, Lieutenant. I'll take care of this." said Chakotay "you keep that woman out of my engine room and everything will be fine!" yelled Carey sitting up again making the Doctor push him back down again "ow!" Carey said.

Amanda, Tuvok and Chakotay are walking in the hallway.

"Where is Miss Torres?" asked Tuvok. "I've confined her to quarters." said Chakotay. "I would like her moved to the brig until formal charges can be filed." Amanda scoffed "formal charges? Come on, Tuvok. We're seventy five years away from the nearest court. Are you really going to hold her in the brig for that long?" she asked, her temper getting away from her "the Captain has the authority to try Miss Torres here on the ship, considering the extenuating circumstances." said Tuvok "well, I'd like to settle this on my own without filing charges and without involving the Captain." said Chakotay.

Amanda nodded in agreement with Chakotay "she struck a fellow officer. That is a court martial offence." said Tuvok "she's a Maquis, and in the Maquis, sometimes you have to push people out of your way to get things done." said Chakotay "I'm not Maquis and I do that sometimes" said Amanda "Miss Torres is no longer a member of the Maquis, and with all due respect, Commander, neither are you. Allowing Miss Torres to get away with a clear violation of regulations sets a bad example for the rest of the crew. It makes it appear as though you were showing favouritism toward the Maquis." said Tuvok.

Amanda resisted the urge to roll her eyes, Vulcan's annoyed her a lot except Spock she liked him because he knew what it was like to struggle with a Human side, meaning she formed a close bond with him while she was at Starfleet Academy, with her father being an Admiral she'd met quite a few people but Spock was really the only one she could relate to.

"Look, Lieutenant, I don't have to explain myself to you. I'll deal with B'Elanna personally, and then I'll inform the Captain. You're to drop this matter. That's an order." snapped Chakotay. "I will yield my authority in this case to you. However, I will make a full report in my security log." said Tuvok. Chakotay steps into the turbolift, Amanda following him. "You do that." said Chakotay, the doors close and Tuvok walked away.

Amanda rubbed her hands over her eyes, she and her sister weren't alike as much as she'd like, Amanda my look more Klingon but she had a tiny bit more control over her temper not much but a bit more than B'Elanna, Amanda realised she and B'Elanna hadn't spoken for days maybe even a week it was hard to keep track on what day it was let alone year. Chakotay gets out on another floor, Amanda follows and they're joined by two of his Maquis crew.

"Sir, we heard what happened. What are they going to do with B'Elanna?" asked Jarvin. "I don't know yet but I'll handle it." said Chakotay. "We heard that Captain Janeway's going to put her in the brig for two months, and that all the Maquis are going to be restricted to quarters when they're not on duty." said Seska, Amanda didn't trust Seska there was something off about her, she didn't trust the Bajoran look about her either.

"Not true." said Chakotay's voice snapping Amanda out of her own thoughts. "We just want you to know that if things do get our of hand, we're ready to back you." said Seska "what does that mean?" asked Chakotay "in case you want to take control of the ship, you have our full support." said Jarvin, Amanda raised an eyebrow. "If I ever hear you talk that way again, I'll personally throw you in the brig for mutiny." snapped Chakotay.

Amanda almost snorted.

B'Elanna is pacing like a caged tiger. The doorbell rings and she throws a bowl at it. The door opens and the bowl just misses Chakotay and nearly hits Amanda who glares at her sister.
"Argh!" B'Elanna screamed in fury. "Here." said Amanda handing her sister a PADD. "What's this?" B'Elanna asks "the medical report on Lieutenant Carey." Amanda responds "Lieutenant Carey is an idiot! When I tell you what happened..." B'Elanna was interrupted by Chakotay " I don't want to hear it! You might be interested to know that the impact fractures along his cranium were pretty severe. If you'd hit him just a little harder, you could have driven some of those bones into his cerebellum." said Chakotay.

"I didn't even come close to hitting him that hard." said B'Elanna defensively "so on the one side, I'm facing a Vulcan who wants court-martial you. And on the other, I'm facing all the Maquis who are ready to seize this ship over this. You've turned this into one lousy day for me, Torres." Chakotay snapped. "So how long do I have to stay in here?" B'Elanna asked. "Rest of the trip. Seventy five years." said Chakotay "you're not serious" gaped Amanda. "I've never found your twisted sense of humour very funny, Chakotay." said B'Elanna sitting down.

"Or I could send you back to work with the understanding that you'll apologise to.." Chakotay was interrupted by B'Elanna "apologise? He was the one who..." Chakotay cut B'Elanna off "not just a simple apology. A personal one, over a hot cup of pejuta. Bond with the man." said Chakotay "I am not going to bond with him." said B'Elanna indignantly "you're going to need support from people like Carey." said Amanda. "I don't need support from anybody." snapped B'Elanna "you are if you're going to be Chief Engineer of this ship." said Chakotay, a small smile graced Amanda's lips "huh. Right." said B'Elanna not believing him.

"This is not another example of my twisted sense of humour." said Chakotay "but Carey is next in line." said B'Elanna "you're a better engineer than he is." said Amanda "what does the Captain have to say about this?" B'Elanna asked "she hasn't said a word, because I haven't told her yet. For now Amanda will be filling in for Carey." said Chakotay. B'Elanna looks slightly shocked "I do have engineering experience, I was offered a job on DS9 at 20 after I graduated the Academy to be chief engineer" said Amanda coldly.
