Chapter 8 - Being Followed

Several days later, Bucky and Sofia are at their Doctor's appointment for their sonogram. At this point, Sofia is eleven weeks pregnant. Doctor Gonzalez enters the room and says, "Hi, Mr. and Mrs. Barnes. How are you?"

"Good," said Sofia.

"Good, thank you," Bucky replied.

Dr. Gonzalez sits in a chair in front of them and asks, "Everything so far good with your pregnancy?"

"Yes," Sofia replied. "I've taken desk duty at work."

"But she's been a little stressed lately," Bucky interrupted.

Sofia fake smiles at him as she is not pleased that he admitted the truth from their Doctor. "Thanks, honey." Bucky sees the look and her eye and gives her a look.

Dr. Gonzalez sees a little tension between Bucky and Sofia. "How long has that been going on?"

Sofia looks back at the Doctor and says, "A week or two?"

"Is it because of work?"

"No."

"Yes," Bucky interrupted. He and Sofia look at each other.

Dr. Gonzalez sees the tension is more than expected. She says, "Well, I recommend you take a lighter workload. Okay?"

"Okay," Sofia agreed.

"Okay, let's take a look through the sonogram. If you can lift your shirt, please."

Sofia does so. She then puts the gel on her pregnant belly. Bucky takes her hand and holds it. Sofia takes a deep breath as she goes through the motion again. The sound of the baby's heartbeat is heard through the sonogram. The Doctor moves the device to get a closer look. Sofia turns to Bucky and says, "Remember, once we find out the baby is healthy, then we will ask if it's a boy or a girl."

Bucky agrees, "Okay. Yes. I get it."

"Wow," Dr. Gonzalez interrupted in a gaze. "This is interesting."

Bucky claps his hands together, excited. "It's a boy! I knew it!"

"Bucky," Sofia snapped as she turned and looked at him.

Bucky sees the look in her eye and recognizes the look in her eyes. He turns to the Doctor and apologizes, "Sorry. Continue."

"I'm not saying it's a boy," commented Dr. Gonnzalez.

"Oh, then it's a girl." Bucky smiles and then turns to Sofia. "She's not dating until she's thirty-five."

"James!" Sofia vented at him.

"Sorry. I won't interrupt anymore."

"Its okay," said Dr. Gonzalez. "But I will say the babies are doing great. Perfect in fact."

"See Bucky. The babies are -"

Sofia and Bucky turn their heads to the Doctor.

"Did you say, babies?" Bucky asks in shock.

"Did she say, babies?" Sofia asked. "I could have sworn that you said -"

Dr. Gonzalez nods and replies, "Yes, you're having twins."

Bucky and Sofia both gasped. "What?!"

"Really?" asks Sofia.

"It's true. See, look here." She turns the monitor. Bucky and Sofia see their babies and are shocked. "That's baby A. And that's baby B."

"Oh, my God." Bucky is silent. Sofia looks at him and notices he's a little pale. "Honey, you okay?"

"I...I am just...so happy," Bucky stuttered, amazed and with a tear in his eye.
