Yamagishi's POV
Yamagishi was tired of standing on the side watching men flock to her in droves when all he wanted was to be the one by her side. He knew he wasn't particularly romantic, but he also knew he wouldn't give up only because of that. Which is why he invited her over to his place without telling anyone.
I want to have her attention on me. She's such a sweet person but I need just one chance.
He fixed his glasses and smoothed down his hair when he heard a knock at his door. Taking a deep breath, he swung the door open with. Unfortunately, a little too hard, causing it to swing and almost knock her completely off her feet as she tried to keep from getting hit. "My Queen!" A sudden pain erupted in his heart at a memory he couldn't see.
I can't....let her die again!
Y/n's POV
When the door suddenly swung open, I tried to jump back so I wouldn't get hit, but doing so almost made me fall off the railing behind me. Suddenly, Yamagishi's arms were wrapped tightly around my waist, yanking me back toward safety with a strength I didn't know he had. I worked hard to steady my breath before looking into his eyes with a small smile. My smile crumbled at the sight of his tears. "Gishi? I promise I'm okay!"
He didn't speak, only keeping me near him as he brought both of us to standing and pulling me into his home.
He remained silent for what felt like hours as I wrapped my arms around his neck, gently cooing and telling him I'm fine. "Gishi, it's okay."
"It's not! I was supposed to protect you!" I stared at Yamagishi in silence, unsure if this was even about what just happened or something else. "If I was with you, I could protect you. I swear it!"
I let out a soft breath. "Gishi, it isn't your job to protect me."
"But I want it to be. I need it to be." My eyes widened as a look of determination took over his expression. "I swear I'll be everything you need me to be this time. I know it doesn't make sense, but I'm so in love with you and I hate it when I'm not with you."
Why do I understand? Why do I feel so....happy?
Yamagishi's POV
He took her silence as a rejection, feeling his heart fall to pieces until her soft hands stroked his face, wiping away tears. Each tear she wiped away, she left a light kiss in its place. By the time she had finished, you could've mistaken she had been wearing red lipstick when she left kisses all over his face.
Even still, he didn't stop her. He grew frustrated that she hadn't kissed the most important spot on his face yet, but when she pulled back with a warm smile only for him, his frustration was forgotten. "Then I trust my King to keep his word for his Queen."
Waves of relief washed over him and he didn't bother trying to hide it, pulling her toward him by her waist and stealing a kiss himself.
