March 2018
18.30, The Capitol Hotel Tokyu Akasaka parking lotThe low hum of your Mazda 6's idling engine and dimly-lit quiet surrounding enclosed your presence behind the steering wheel. A familiar feeling loomed over as you nestled yourself on the leather seat's soft, cozy surface. You were used to this - being surrounded by nothing but warmth and silence as you simply waited inside your car for Mikey's or Draken's return. Tonight, you found yourself in the same situation, wordlessly waiting for your Alpha boss' command.
Through the rearview mirror, you glanced at the heavy presence settling at the back seat. His expression serious as he meticulously studied the document on the tablet. The screen's glow reflected on his gold-framed glasses further emphasized his apparent focus as he engrossed himself in reading the document.
You exhaled a silent sigh that escaped his ears, flashing your memory back to three weeks prior to this night.
How did I get myself into this situation?
That night, after the unsuccessful proposal submission, you again found yourself in the quiet, almost empty lobby. Well, 'unsuccessful' seemed to downplay the gravity of the situation - it was an utter and complete failure weighed with immediate, scornful rejection. The echoing taps of your heels again followed you before a buzz on your phone disturbed your lonely evening. It was Hanma, calling to summon you back to Kisaki's office.
Ascending the same elevator, you began to question the captain's sudden change of heart. Kisaki was never a generous person to give second chances and Hanma was never on the opposing side of his captain's. You couldn't help but wonder if there was a catch.
As you entered the room, you noticed the contrasting tension hung in the air. Sitting on his chair, Kisaki fixed his indifferent gaze into you. While standing next to him, unbothered by his captain's lack of enthusiasm, Hanma adorned a confident, playful grin on his lips, his eyes glinted with mischief.
Oh, there's definitely a catch.
"Hello again, (y/n). Glad to have you back here again~!" the tall Alpha joyfully welcomed you. "Sorry for the earlier rudeness. You see, my captain right here has a rather... unpleasant experience with konkatsu. So you bringing up the topic is making him quite uncomfortable."
You quickly turned your attention to the 6th division captain, where your widened irises were met with his scoff before he turned his face away in disdain. It was momentarily, but you could see sadness flashed in his eyes. Hanma was telling the truth.
"I... apologize if I had upset you," you bowed before him, politely and genuinely. "I had absolutely no idea that you would feel that way."
"No need to be so tense dear (y/n). Rather than your apology, Kisaki needs your companion."
You returned to your earlier position, expression changed from rigid scowl to perplexed frown.
"I thought the 6th division captain doesn't enjoy my presence," you replied skeptically.
