Alone in the now-quiet meeting room, you threw yourself on a corner chair, letting out a long sigh as you tried to make sense about what just happened this morning. Being assigned to Kisaki Tetta was one thing you never predicted would happen to you. While other five captains heavily relied on your assistance - whether for report preparation, ambush operation, or dinner reservation - he never asked for your help, making him the captain you were most distant with.
You saw how he reacted when Mikey delivered his judgment about your assignment to his division - how his deep-set grey eyes were filled with intense aversion for you. In a way, you understood how he came to bear such animosity. It went all the way back to your first day in Toman, when you unknowingly announced his second gender shortcoming - something he preferred to be kept in the dark - in front of the whole executive ranks. Since then, he had marked you as his enemy, to the point of him plotting ways to drive you out of Toman. All to no avail, since you were able to cleverly see through his schemes, intensifying his dislike and - weirdly enough - enticing his interest towards you.
A sigh again escaped your mouth. You could spend the whole day thinking about him, but with a roster of to-do lists in your notes, time was one luxury you didn't have in your hand. Soon, you turned your first day back to work into a whirlwind of productivity as you tackled multitude of tasks in the comfort of your laptop in the meeting room. Moving to your car, you stopped by the gas station to fill in the tank, dropped by Omusubi Gonbei in Shinjuku to buy a box of taiyaki, and delivered them to Mikey's office, much to his excitement for your return to office.
Lunchtime offered you a short change of pace after the busy morning as you sat down in Matsuya, a local chain restaurant, for a warm bowl of beef stew. A perfect meal for a cold winter day. You enjoyed your loneliness surrounded by crowds of different faces - a group of university students being loud in the corner seat, two salarymen gulping their meal in a hurry, and three neighborhood friends happily gossiping with each other.
You were always mobile, without any office or as much as a designated desk and chair. As the afternoon loomed, you were on the way to your 1/15 Coffee, one of your favorite cafés, ready to settle in your working mode before a call to your phone stopped you on your track. You frowned in confusion as you read the name displayed on the screen.
"Yes, Baji-taichou?" you answered your phone. It was rare for the First Division Captain to call. He usually texted.
"Oi (y/n)! So you're in 6th division now?!" Baji pressed for answer as soon as he heard your voice.
"Yes. Souchou made his decision this morning."
"Tsk, that bastard," Baji sounded pissed. "Doesn't he know that we're having a big tournament later this week? How are we going to be without you helping us?!"
"I believe he knows. But I was urgently needed in the 6th division."
He didn't reply, but you could hear him grunting at the other side of the line.
"(y/n)-san." Now a soft voice called your name. "Could you send me all the data for the tournament? I'll do your work in your stead."
"No problem, Matsuno-fukutaichou," you scribbled your notebook, adding his request to your to-do list. "I'll add some notes for you as well, so you know what to look for."
"Thanks (y/n)-san! You're a life-saver. Oh, and good luck for your assignment!"
With that, your phone call with the 1st division ended.
Settling down at your usual window-side seat, you engrossed yourself in front of your laptop's illuminating screen before another buzz to your phone distracted you.
