The following morning
06.10
The lock's mechanism of the apartment door turned with a click, breaking the silence in the dimly-lit corridor.
Home, finally.
A sigh left his lips as the door shut behind him. The emergency meeting was intense. Mikey demanded for the traitor's gang to be apprehended within 2 days and for the matter to be 'resolved' before the end of the week. Strategies had been laid out, executioners had been appointed, and movement would be made as the dawn break. He had carried out his role, and now it was time for him to take a well-deserved rest.
"Ara~, good morning, Kisaki-sama."
Mrs. Takakura, the housekeeper, greeted his with warmth and a flash of confusion. The lady in her 60s was the only person beside Hanma Shuji whom he trusted with a key to his apartment — although sometimes Kisaki contemplated about taking that privilege from the Kabukicho Shinigami due to his annoying barge-ins from time to time. Everyday, she came at 6 o'clock to prepare his meal, clean his apartment, and make sure everything was according to his demand. Although Kisaki himself didn't want to admit, to him, she was less than a maid and more like a caring grandma.
"Work?" she asked. It was rare for her to see the young employer in such a disheveled state.
"Yeah," exhaustion was clear in his tone. "What's for breakfast today?"
"Grilled saba, miso soup, and salad. Ah, I bought some good fruits at the market yesterday evening. Would you like some fruit juice as well?"
"No thanks," he dragged his feet across the living room towards his bedroom. "I'm going to head inside and bathe. Let me know if breakfast is ready."
"Will do. Go and get yourself freshen up."
Under the shower, warm water rushed over him like blessings from heaven. Heat sank under his skin into his muscles, washing away the exhaustion from whatever happened in the last few hours. Behind the curling steam, for a moment, he could finally set his mind at ease.
"Your scent..."
Urgh, he groaned. The gear in his head shifted as your voice echoed on his mind. His hand braced against the wet tiles, water ran down his hair as his mind replayed the scene.
Impossible, he said to himself. How was it possible for him, a recessive Alpha, to 'heal' you with a touch of his pheromone?
Then again, it happened, didn't it?
What is it with her?
His after-bath ritual was always the same. Wrapped in an organic cotton bathrobe, he stood before the mirror. Brushing his teeth, washing his face, spraying deodorant. No shaving needed today — it was not Tuesday — so he went on to dry his hair with temperature set on 'cool'. Only when every step was done did he put on his golden-rimmed glasses to check on his overall appearance.
"You're not him..."
Kisaki threaded his steps back to his bedroom with frown evident on his face. Now sat on the edge of his bed, he sighed. The thought of you lingered on his mind. How many layers of you had he seen in the last few hours? The dangerous Alpha who calmly tore a traitor apart without an ounce of hesitation. The helpless woman who crumbled before him, almost be eaten alive by the darkness of her mind. And the usual you: the quiet yet reliable Executive Secretary of Tokyo Manji Kai ready to assist Mikey in the emergency meeting.
Who are you?
His hand reached for the nightstand where a pen and an A6-sized notepad resided, and began writing — a habit of his to structure the chaos in his mind.
